Mutual Aid from 7 communities helps put out 3-alarm fire on York Road

On Monday, February 19, a call came into the North Royalton Fire Department at about 2:00 p.m. regarding an explosion and fire at 14900 York Road. North Royalton Fire Chief, Bob Chegan was first on the scene of the fully involved fire. He said he could see the thick, black smoke from the North Royalton Fire Station on Royalton Road . The building, owned by DiGioia Suburban Excavators, Incorporated, housed various businesses, such as a pressure washing company and auto repair shop. A ‘beacon’ of the community closes its doors after 65 years in business

Beaconhill Florist & Greenhouse, one of the oldest family-owned businesses in the city, closed Feb. 26. Owner Alan Saniuk, 59, son of Irene and Leo, is retiring from the floral industry and starting a new position in the electrical, plumbing and mechanical field. It’s a bittersweet move for Saniuk, who literally grew up in the shop, assisting his parents and learning the ins and outs of the trade since he was a small child. Community Garden Eyes Expansion

Over the past few years, many residents would have to wait, sometimes for years, to have the chance to garden at the North Royalton Community Garden. Now, there are gardening opportunities available. Plans are also being discussed to expand the garden, with the blessing of the city. “The Community Garden Board, and our garden members have decided that this is a wonderful opportunity for the garden and look forward to the expansion,” said Garden Coordinator, Dejana Cinquepalmi. Five NRHS athletes sign national letters of intent

Wednesday, February 7, was a day that five North Royalton seniors will remember for a very long time. The five signed their National Letters of Intent to continue playing their high school sports at the collegiate level. The five join four other North Royalton High School Seniors who signed National Letters of Intent in the fall. Of the five who signed earlier this month, four were members of the North Royalton girls’ soccer team. The other played on the Bears football team. NRMS fifth graders show off projects at “Space Night”

North Royalton Middle School fifth-graders had the chance to show off their work to parents, as well as the entire fifth-grade community when they showcased their “Space Night” projects. All fifth graders were assigned a project dealing with space. They were given 12 different options to choose from to match their specific talent. These options included technology, art, creativity, writing, and singing among others.
