School Board rejects Albion School land sale
The North Royalton Board of Education recently amended a previous sale of the Valley Vista property and also rejected the bid on the Albion Road school property, which is located on Albion Road, east of York Road. The Albion property is one of three properties that previously housed elementary schools, and was vacated with the building of the new North Royalton Elementary School, on State Road. Land preservation group, West Creek Conservancy, placed a bid for the fifteen-acre property during a public auction that took place in late May. Don Filips inducted into the NEO Baseball Coaches Assn.
North Royalton City Schools’ Coach Don Filips was inducted into the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association (NEOBCA) Hall of Fame on June 15 at Canal Park in downtown Akron. It took place before the final All-Star Game. Coach Filips built the North Royalton Bears into a baseball powerhouse during his 14 years as head coach (1994 - 2007). Coach Filips’ 243 wins are the most in school history. Gas hikes affect more than just filling your tank
As of June 28, according to gasbuddy.com, the price of gasoline in the North Royalton area ranges from $4.86 to $4.97 per gallon for regular, unleaded gas. More than double from this time two years ago, “$1.98/gal on June 1, 2020 to $2.19/gal on July 31, 2020.” Last year, in the Midwest, the price average increased to $2.99 for the week of June 28, 2021, according to turnpikeinfo.com. Council bags county ban on plastic bags
The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation that bans the Cuyahoga County ban on plastic bags. North Royalton now joins cities, such as Independence, Strongsville and North Olmsted, who have also opted out of the ban. The measure was brought up by Ward 1 Council Representative John Nickell at the May 19 Council Building and Building Codes Committee. W. 130th water main break creates a large sinkhole
A water main break took place on Tuesday, June 21, on West 130th Street between Drake Road and Bennett’s Corners, near Tradewinds, in Ward 5. The break took place at about 2 a.m. Ward 5 Council Representative Dawn Carbone-McDonald said that the break caused flooding for some residents in the area and caused a large sinkhole in the roadway. The roadway was then closed between Drake and Hunt Roads. There was a no boil alert issued by the City of Cleveland, Division of Water.
