The North Royalton Community Emergency Response Team (NRCERT) holds to the truth that when disaster strikes people and their needs should be placed above all else. Established in 2003, NRCERT was created to assist the North Royalton safety forces in the event of a disaster or emergency. NRCERT currently has approximately 110 members from the community who are committed to North Royalton and its citizens. While in “peacetime,” when there are no pending disasters or emergencies, members from the NRCERT dedicate their time to receive training and to build skills. The training and skills are then put into practice in exercises designed to utilize the newly acquired skills. By putting these skills into practice, NRCERT can be ready to help the safety forces in times of need. If a large scale disaster were to strike, it is likely that the safety forces would be overwhelmed. This is why it is vital to have a trained team of individuals on stand-by. This team of trained community members is the North Royalton CERT.
The NRCERT will hold a mock smallpox inoculation exercise on Saturday, May 17, from 10 – 11 a.m. and is in need of volunteers who can simulate members of the community requiring inoculations. “‘Give 17 minutes on the 17th!’ is our request for volunteers campaign. All people who volunteer their 17 minutes and walk through our simulated inoculation center will receive a certificate of participation as our way of saying ‘thank you’,” said Rayna Phillips, NRCERT Program Manager and Deputy Commander. The certificate validates your part in our inoculation exercise.

NRCERT smallpox inoculation center exercise is being held to utilize skills acquired through training to be ready when the safety forces need us. It will be held at the North Royalton High School, 14713 Ridge Road. Anyone and any age can participate (children must be accompanied by an adult). Those who attend will be instructed on what to do by a NRCERT member. You will be asked to fill out a sheet with your name and email (or address if no email is available). This information will be used to send out your certificate of participation.
