The City of North Royalton was able to add another road project to the list of 2019 Road Projects this year. Due to the fact that the other projects came in under estimates and the income tax receipts were higher than anticipated, another road project was added, according to Mayor Bob Stefanik.
Earlier this year, Council passed several ordinances that accepted bids from JD Striping and Services, Incorporated for paint striping/auxiliary traffic marking; Florio & Son Cement, Incorporated for concrete repairs and Crossroads Asphalt Recycling for equipment and general pavement services. On April 16, Council approved an ordinance accepting the bid of Kokosing Materials, Incorporated for the purchase of asphalt.
The City has already begun to tackle the following streets and subdivisions. A three-inch mill and fill is being done to Akins Road from Ridge to State Roads; Bunker Road from Ridge to State Roads; and Maple Lane. The N. Akins Road resurfacing, from Ridge Road to State Road has been completed by Crossroads Asphalt. A partial depth repair is being addressed in the following subdivisions: Bunker Estates, Cedarwood, Chesapeake, Hunters Creek and Timber Ridge. Royalton Road will also be resurfaced from York Road, east, to the North Royalton/Broadview Heights line.
N. Akins from Bennett Road to Rt. 82 had minor repairs instead of the original plan to repave. Cost savings added to about $200,000, which allowed the addition of Albion Road paving to be done. The stretch of Albion Road is being repaved from Ridge Road to York Road. The estimated cost of that repaving will be about $725,000. “We made minor repairs on North Akins and will shift the savings over to Albion where there is a more critical need,” said Stefanik. Crossroads Asphalt is performing the mill and fill resurfacing along Albion Road, according to city officials. This project has already begun and is expected to have a 14-day schedule, depending upon the weather.
Royalton Road is being resurfaced in two phases. The first phase of the project covers the stretch from York Road to just east of Ridge Road. The second phase will cover the stretch from the area just east of Ridge Road, from the end of Phase 1, to the North Royalton/Broadview Heights corporation line. According to city officials, “the project is a mill and fill pavement replacement, with catch basin adjustments and curb replacements along the project limits. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of October. Message boards will be active and warn motorists of the construction.” The first phase of the Royalton Road repaving project started on July 15. This section should be completed by early August.
“Motorists are encouraged to slow down, pay special attention, use extreme caution and patience when traveling through work zones throughout North Royalton,” according to city officials. “Here are some safety tips for traveling in work zones:
-Pay complete attention! The most common cause of work zone crashes are inattentive drivers!
-Orange is your clue! Pay attention when you see orange signs, barrels, cones and barricades.
-Obey all speed signs, speed may be reduced for your safety and the safety of the workers.
-Remember, work zone traffic lanes are often narrow.
-When possible, move over to give workers more room between them and your vehicle.
Expect delays, plan for them and leave early so you can drive safely to your destination.”
