Students at St. Albert the Great are thrilled to have a brand new playground. Recess will be much more fun now with the new playground equipment that was dedicated on March 20.
“For some of us this is a dream that seems to have come true relatively quickly. For some of us this is a dream that seems to have taken a few years to come true. For some others this is a dream that seems to have taken many years to come true. And yet for others this is a dream you thought would never be realized,” said Principal Ed Vittardi during the dedication.
The creation of a playground has been in the works for a couple of years. With the approval of both Vittardi and Fr. Edward Estok, pastor, the Finance Council, PTA and School Advisory Council began planning on what needed to be done come to have the idea become a reality.
“I’d like to thank Father Estok because without his support of this effort, today remains just a dream! This playground is representative of the hard work and dedication of so many… first of all to our PTO presidents past and present and their Boards for raising the funds responsible for this playground. I’d like to thank those past PTO presidents with us, Ruth Crane, Rob Low, Rick Boggs, and those unable to make it today, Doug Ziemianski, John Valvoda, Scott Broski, Steve Thompson, Greg Alberty, Brian Haas,” said Vittardi.
Vittardi also thanked those on the committees of the PTO, School Advisory Council and Finance Council who worked to make the project possible.
Fr. Estok gave a blessing and invited representatives of each homeroom to come forward for the ribbon cutting. He also kept a promise he made that if the teams could make this dream a reality, he would be the first to come down the slide. And, keeping to his word, he officially opened the playground by being the first to come down the slide. He was followed by the hundreds of excited students.
