Only in North Royalton can you have five inches of snow one day and 70 degrees and sun with a visit from the Easter Bunny just two days later. Yet, that is what happened on a lovely Sunday afternoon, April 9, when more than 300 kids from North Royalton lined the path at the Memorial Park in North Royalton waiting for their opportunity to search for hidden eggs. The North Royalton Kiwanis has been sponsoring this Easter Egg Hunt for over 30 years in every type of weather imaginable.
“We have withstood snow, rain, ice and even the occasional beautiful day as we have had today,” said Linda Arduini, Kiwanis Member and Executive Director of Royalton Woods Retirement Living.
On April 5, the residents, staff, and volunteers gathered in the Community Room at Royalton Woods ready to tackle the momentous task of filling some 3,000 eggs. “In just one hour, residents and volunteers filled more than 3,000 eggs. They were amazing.”
Kiwanis Club members, along with the Easter Bunny and members of the North Royalton High School’s Key Club, spread thousands of Easter Eggs on the grounds.
After the initial batch of eggs was collected, Key Club members walked through the grounds dropping even more eggs to insure that all the children, both big and small, got their share.
The children were lined up by age groups: 4 and under, 5-to-7 years old 8-10. And with a 3-2-1 countdown, the children left the pavement armed with their buckets or plastic bags and began the task of collecting every Easter Egg they could find.
The residents of Royalton Woods particularly look forward to this opportunity every year to give back to local children, knowing that their work will bring smiles to hundreds of children. One-hundred-fifty Easter cookies were given to the children courtesy of Royalton Woods Retirement Living.
A big thank you to all the dedicated volunteers, including Girl Scout Troop 1084, for their ongoing efforts to enrich the lives of residents and the community as a whole.
