A number of North Royalton student-athletes were ‘front, in-center’ before their fellow students, teammates, coaches and parents on May 24.
Nine students signed their National Letters of Intent, declaring where they will continue their athletic careers in the fall.
Following that event, three North Royalton student-athletes received their awards for being named “Athletes of the Year.”
The athletes who signed their National Letters were: Paige Heffke for softball, University of Chicago; Mariam Zayour for swimming, College of Wooster; Kaitlyn Bockelman for basketball, Rochester Institute of Technology; Paityn Gutkowski for cheerleading, Ashland University; Madison Yuzwa for cheerleading, Ohio State University; Omar Abuhamdeh for basketball, John Carroll University; Matthew Van Steenlandt for football, Hocking College; Seamus Coberly for football, Baldwin-Wallace University; and Aidan Kane for soccer, John Carroll University.
Following the ‘signing’ ceremony, Katie Bockelman, Killian O’Callahan and Julianna Watrobski were honored as North Royalton High School’s Athletes of the Year.
Bockelman was given the Herman L. Joy Award for being named as the Female Athlete of the Year. O’Callahan was given the Harold Conrad Award signifying the Male Athlete of the Year. Watrobski was named the recipient of the Eric L. Gibson Award for being named as the Academic Athlete of the Year.
Katie participated in three sports during the school year: Volleyball, Basketball and Track and Field.
Killian O’Callahan played four sports in his senior season: Football, Soccer, Basketball and Baseball. He will attend Ohio State University next year.
Julianna participated in Cross Country, Cheerleading and Track and Field. She will attend Ohio University.
