North Royalton City Schools’ (NRCS) bus driver Bruce Abbott tied for first place at the state’s bus driver road-e-o on Saturday and is now qualified for the international competition this summer!
Bruce Abbott placed fifth in the competition and qualified to go on to the state competition on Saturday, October 26. Karin Wolford placed eighth at the competition and Jane Lawry placed ninth, which means both Wolford and Lawry are alternates for the state competition.
Not only did the drivers do well individually, the team, which included Abbott, Cathy Kroeger, Lawry, and Jonathan Redden, placed third among the competing teams.
Once the competition was over, participants received awards. North Royalton City Schools tied for second as Most Spirited Group. Karen Zanotti was the highest scoring rookie driver and took home the “Rookie of the Year” award. Monica Trunzo received the Judge’s Award for Runnerwith the Most Laps.
“To say I’m proud of our group is an understatement! I’m looking forward to heading to states to cheer on Bruce, and hopefully Karin and Jane if others in the top six can’t make it,” said Hovan.
