Oakridge Pool is a hidden gem in North Royalton and is the community’s only outdoor pool open to the public. Located off State Road, just south of Sprague Road, Oakridge isn’t only a great place to hang out all summer, but also focuses on the importance of water safety by providing swim lessons and the promotion of fun fitness opportunities for kids through swim team.
The importance of water safety cannot be overstated. Everyone, especially children, should be able to swim. Sadly, this is not the case and per Safe Kids Worldwide, almost 800 children drown in the U.S. every year. At Oakridge Pool, swim instructors teach aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression, with a focus on swimming pool safety in and around the water.
In addition to a focus on safety, Oakridge knows that the health benefits of swimming are numerous. It trains the cardiovascular system, is a low-impact exercise and a great whole body workout. There are also several psychological benefits of swimming. A day at the pool relaxes the mind, uplifts the spirit and is a great opportunity to socialize and have fun on a hot day.
Joining the Oakridge swim team promotes benefits that go beyond getting fit. Swimming is an exciting individual and team sport. As a member of a community-based swim team, your child will learn self-discipline, goal-setting, commitment, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership skills. Swim team promotes fitness and cultivates friendship and a sense of community. The Oakridge Dolphin Swim Team is open to all residents of North Royalton and to those children attending North Royalton schools. Swimmers looking to join swim team must be 5 to 18 years in age and be able to swim one length of the pool without touching the bottom or grabbing the sides of the pool. The team has been one of the leading teams in the Southwest Swim League for many years.
Board members will be at the North Royalton Library on Sunday, April 23, to answer questions and to sign up for swim lessons, swim team or a general pool membership. You can also sign up at www.oakridge.com. Join Oakridge pool today…what’s better than being outside on a gorgeous day, getting fit while making new friends and learning a life skill all at the same time?!
