The August meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, July 12.
Several residents addressed the Board regarding Critical Race Theory and the values that are being taught to students. Another resident talked about having to tie in to the sewer system near the new elementary school.
The Board approved the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan grants for 2021-22 as listed.

The Board approved change funds for those school operations requiring them for the 2021-22 school year: Middle School Media Center $ 40.00; High School Media Center $ 20.00; Elementary School Media Center $40.00; Elementary School Cafeteria $ 75.00; Middle School Cafeteria $ 175.00; High School Cafeteria $ 400.00; High School Letterman’s Club $ 50.00; High School/Middle School Athletic Dept. $ 4,000.00; High School Student Activity Office $ 30.00; Middle School Book Store $ 150.00; Middle School Office $ 50.00; Transportation Department $150.00.
The Board adopted the Suburban League Conference Salary Schedule for Officials and the North Royalton High School/Middle School Salary Schedule for Athletic Event Workers for the 2021-22 school year.
The Board approved the following fees for the 2021-22 school year:
Kindergarten $21.00
Grades 1-4 $36.00
Grades 5-7 $41.00
Grade 8 $51.00 + World Language Fee if applicable:
Spanish I $11, French I $11, German I $4
The Board approved an agreement with Julian and Grube, Incorporated for Medicaid School Program cost request procedures for the fiscal years ending June 30, 2022 and June 30, 2023.
The Board approved the following athletic event ticket prices for the 2021-22 school year:
All Sports $7.00 for Adults (All Sports) and Students (Football Only) at Gate
Swimming Only: $5.00 for Students and Adults
JV/Varsity $4.00 for Students Pre-sale (K-12) for Football
Varsity $4.00 for Students (Pre-sale and Gate) for all sports other than football
(except swimming)
North Royalton Senior Citizens free with identification (62 or older)
JV-Only $3 for Adults
Freshmen-Only $2 for Students (K-12)
7th/8th Grade no admission charge

The Board approved the 2021-22 Student/Parent Handbooks, as presented.
The Board approved the following agreements for the 2021-22 school year: St. Albert the Great for personnel services; Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio for programs/services (interpreter and gifted coordinator; Care Behavior Management Systems, Incorporated for Instructor Recertification for Restraint/Seclusion Training; Education Service Center of Northeast Ohio for special education programs/services at Achievement Centers for Children; Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio for summer Extended School Year program for one teacher of the visually impaired.
The Board recognized the retirement of Richard Nestoff and Susan Underwood. It also approved the change of assignment of Joann Woods from Cafeteria Worker to Aide, High School; Kelly Zippay from .5 to full time Kindergarten/Elementary School
The Board authorized the use of buses for the 2021-22 school year to transport:
-High School band members and others involved to football games and band contests in Northeast Ohio area;
-Graduating seniors, band members, and others involved to the Key Bank State Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio for Commencement in May, and other activities pertaining to graduation; and
-Students and others involved in field trips.
The Board amended the 2021-22 Classified Work Calendar for the 10-Month Clerk/Typist, Office Secretary employees to reflect the Juneteenth federal holiday on June 19, 2022, observed on June 20, 2022.
The Board eliminated the current eleventh-month athletic/activities office secretary work calendar. The employee will follow the eleven-month classified work calendar.
The Board approved the agreement with B&D Towing for the 2021-22 school year for towing services for the District.
The Board recessed into Executive Session to consider the sale of property at competitive bidding. It then determined that Valley Vista Elementary School should be offered at public offer, as it is no longer needed for school district purposes.
The next regular Board meeting will take place on Monday, August 9, at 7 p.m. at the North Royalton High School Media Center.
