The first meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, January 9.
Assistant Superintendent Melissa Vojta gave a presentation on the curricular strategic plan goal relating to students who are English learners.
The Board adopted the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Tax Budget. It then approved the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan grant for 2022-23, in the amount of $652.63.
The Board approved the following adjustment: 507 ESSER, from $1,436,473.27 to $1,437,125.90.
The Board approved the adoption of the classified substitute salary schedule, effective January 1, 2023, minimum wage increased to $10.10 per hour.
School Superintendent Mike Laub reported that a member of the tech department had left and that, like many other vacancies, the administration looks at the position to see if a replacement is necessary. He went on to talk about permanent improvement projects that will be targeted for this year, stating some of the following: redo the backboards at the Middle School; facelift at the Board Office conference room; track timing system at the Stadium; a replacement schedule for band instruments; new turf for the baseball and softball fields; stadium turf replacement; HVAC and boilers at the High School; humanities world painting; Performing Arts Center sound system; furniture and LED lighting retrofitting around the district; pumps at the Middle School; rails painting; bus garage asphalt and water line repair and locker room project.

The Board approved the following extended trip proposal:
Peek-n Peak Resort, Clymer, NY, Sunday, February 5, 2023, North Royalton Middle School Winter Sports Club.
The Board accepted and acknowledged the following gifts/donations:
“-Several people donated a combined total of 46 copies of the book, Spike Puts His Paw Down, by Mary Lou Lydecker to North Royalton Elementary School.
-Aldrea Orr donated craft supplies and book covers, valued at approximately $30, to North Royalton Elementary School.
-Promarketing, Inc. donated $2,000 to North Royalton High School towards furniture in the courtyard.”
