Valley Vista Elementary showcased students’ artistic talents at their art show on February 21. The theme for the show followed the reading theme in the classroom, which was “Out of this World.” Each grade level was responsible for creating a project that dealt with space.
Kindergartners learned hand coloring and intricate cutting skills when making astronauts. First graders used neon paint and paper for their neon Alien UFOs. The second graders used Modge Podge, tissue paper, gems and metallic markers when creating warm colored suns and cool colored moons. Third grade students painted a space scene, drew a space shuttle and worked with metallic paint for their painting of a space shuttle in outer space. Finally, the fourth-grade students were able to paint with watercolors using salt, foil stars and metallic pencils for their final product of salt painted constellations.
There was also a 12-foot mural to color, drawn on black paper filled with outer space designs, drawn by art teacher Rebecca Gill. “The students had the opportunity during the art show to color it using construction paper crayons that showed up on the black paper,” said Gill. “The finished mural was out of this world!”
