Just as you can be sure that spring will bring beautiful flowers, so can you be sure that road work in the city will begin. The 2019 Road Repair Program is already in full swing! ‘We have budgeted for $2 million in repairs for 2019, of which $650,000 was paid to the county for the repaving of State Route 82 from York Road to the east side border,” according to North Royalton Finance Director, Eric Dean.
On March 5, Council passed several ordinances that accepts bids from JD Striping and Services, Incorporated for paint striping/auxiliary traffic marking; Florio & Son Cement, Incorporated for concrete repairs and Crossroads Asphalt Recycling for equipment and general pavement services. On April 16, Council approved an ordinance accepting the bid of Kokosing Materials, Incorporated for the purchase of asphalt.
This year, the city has already begun to tackle the following streets and subdivisions.
Three Inch Mill & Fill: Akins (from Ridge to State Roads), Bunker (from Ridge to State Roads), Maple Lane, N. Akins (from Bennett Road to Rt. 82)
Partial Depth Repair: Bunker Estates Subdivision, Cedarwood Subdivision, Chesapeake Subdivision, Hunters Creek Subdivision, Timber Ridge Subdivision
In the past, road projects usually begin in July or August. Starting with last year, however, the projects were being targeted for an earlier start date, with bidding for road projects going out earlier in order to get the projects started in April. Before the bidding takes place, each year, Mayor Bob Stefanik and Service Director Nick Cinquepalmi conduct a review of the Pavement Management Ranking List, which include viewing the streets first hand. The ranking list rates each streets with a score from one to ten. Those with the most need score low. After discussing proposed budget for street repair for the year, recommendations are then made to City Council for approval. The program includes not only reconstruction, but also joint repair, patching and concrete slab replacement.
Last year, South Akins Road between York and Bennett Roads; Edgerton Road between Bennett and Ridge Roads; and Bennett Road, phase 2, were reconstructed at a cost of about $869,000, according to Dean. In addition, the streets of Hillary, Padua and Barllermine Drives in St. Thomas Woods Development; Saturn, Jupiter, Athena, Mercury, Titan and Apollo Drives in the Planets Development; Perl Court, Stuart Court, Reckman Court, Dales, Helen and Vista Drive in the Perlbrook Subdivision and Sharon Lane, Eastend Drive, Milan, Dennis and Douglas Courts in the Sharon Lane Subdivisions had concrete repair. York Road, Wallings Road, Sprague Road, as well as Akins Road, Lynn, Delsy, Gabriella and Glenwillow Drives had asphalt repair.
The South Akins Road project consists of 1.03 miles between Bennett Road and York Road. That project is expected to cost about $240,000, with no assistance. The cost of these repairs totaled close to $690,000, according to Dean.
