The North Royalton Board of Education’s monthly School Board meeting took place on Monday, February 10. The following building presentations were made: Albion Elementary Fourth grade student, Emily Dockrill was recognized for her courage, resilience, positive attitude and outgoing personality. Emily is an inspiration to all as she embraces her differing abilities by advocating for herself and educating students and staff on what it is like to be a hard of hearing student. City broadens its Info Tech Department
The city has broadened the Information Technology (I.T.) reach by adding the position of I.T. Systems Network Technician under the Police Department. This comes after Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz introduced legislation to add the position and allow for the funding. The ultimate plan is to have the position of I.T. Systems Administrator-LAN Manager/I.T. Director, which is currently serving the Police and Fire Departments move to City Hall and cover the technology needs of the entire city. Timber Ridge Plaza vacant corner is being torn down
The Timber Ridge Plaza is now a little smaller. Demolition of a portion of the L-shaped plaza began in late January. The plaza is located at the southeast corner of Sprague Road and York Road. Originally, Timber Ridge was a 105,000+ square-foot shopping center, built in 1990 on about eight and a half acres. According to Cuyahoga County records, the plaza is owned by 9199 Sprague Road, LLC, which took possession of it in 2011. School Board opposes the EdChoice Scholarship Program
The North Royalton School District still faces financial uncertainty, due to the state’s EdChoice Voucher Program. The state’s biennium budget, which was adopted last year, included a change in it’s EdChoice scholarship program that has added the North Royalton District, as well as other well-to-do districts to their program. The EdChoice Scholarship program offers scholarship to parents of students in underperforming public schools and for low income students. Number of white tailed deer continues to drop
The numbers are in for the latest deer hunting season. The Ohio Deer Hunting Season for 2019-20, for archery started on September 28, 2019 and concluded on February 2, 2020, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. With this season’s end, North Royalton Chief of Police, Ken Bilinovich, reported the 2019-20 season’s update to the Council Safety Committee at their meeting on January 21.
