The community has a lot of love for John Owen Dumm, a 14-year-old North Royalton teenager diagnosed in 2008 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a fatal disease characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Over the years, his story has garnered the support of thousands throughout northeast Ohio and this summer’s 11th annual “Picnic in the Park” event at German Central in Parma was no different. Let the 200th Birthday festivities begin! The North Royalton Animal Hospital and Paws At Play Resort and Daycare will once again host its annual Pet Carnival on the City Green from 1 to 4 p.m. July 29. The event, which coincides with the citywide Sidewalk Sale encouraging local shopping, will officially kick off the community’s bicentennial celebration. School levy set for November ballot
A second resolution was adopted at the North Royalton Board of Education’s July 9 regular meeting to place a resolution declaring it necessary to submit a levy to consolidate the district’s three emergency operating levies in excess of the ten-mill limitation on the November 6, 2018, ballot. “In order to place an issue on the November ballot, two resolutions must be approved by the Board of Education,” according to school officials. “The first is a resolution authorizing the treasurer to certify the millage with the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer. Citywide Sidewalk Sale kicks off bicentennial celebration
The Royalton Recorder is kicking off the bicentennial celebration by sponsoring a two-day Business Sidewalk Sale event on July 28 and 29. Local businesses throughout the community will be open for visiting customers. A number of businesses will be holding outdoor tent sales and special promotions all in honor of promoting local commerce, while others will invite you inside their establishments to view their offerings. City to add more roads on repair list
Due to an increase in tax receipts this year, the city will increase its road budget and spend more than $2 million on the 2018 Road Repair Program. At its June 19 meeting, the North Royalton City Council authorized the Mayor to go out to bid on June 20. Bid openings were to take place on July 5. Earlier this year, the city elected to repave Edgerton Road at a cost of about $650,000, from Bennett Road to Ridge Road and South Akins Road, between Bennett Road and York Road, at a cost of about $240,000.
