Historical Society buys property from closed Methodist Church
The North Royalton Historical Society (NRHS) is now the proud owner of the Smith/Rutledge House, which has served as their home and museum for many years. The house and .55 acre property was owned by the North Royalton Methodist Church. The society had the right to take the house and move it, according to Don Harris, Vice President of the NRHS. The house was originally occupied in 1858 and was one of the first homes in the area. The first floor and second floors are open to the public and represents life from 1850 to the mid 1900s. Black Bear sightings hit close to home
Last month there were several black bear sightings in neighboring communities. On May 12 one was spotted in Portage County. The following day, there was a spotting in Hudson, then later in Brecksville and Hinckley Township. Ursus americanus, the black bear, is the most common species of bear in North America. They are crepuscular, meaning they are most active early in the morning and late in the evening. They are omnivores; eating a variety of foods, such as fruits, insects, grasses and meat. Lady Bears softball growing by leaps and bounds
This has been a big turnaround year for the North Royalton Girls Softball team. In 2017, the Lady Bears were closer to the bottom of the Suburban League’s National Conference standings than the top. This year, North Royalton has flipped the switch, softball wise. In 2018, North Royalton finished play in the National Conference with a record of nine wins and five losses.
