During the month of May, North Royalton Board of Education and Superintendent Greg Gurka presented four businesses with the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Business Honor Roll Award. Two streets added to road repair list this year
The City’s annual road program will now add two more streets for this year. Due to bids that came well under the city’s targeted projections, the streets of Parkdale Drive and Royalhaven Drive will be added to the list, which, this year, only included Tilby Road. The road program was recently bid out and the lowest and best bid was awarded to Specialized Construction at the June 6 City Council meeting. Grants will add more Wi-Fi and Sidewalks
City officials recently received word that they will be receiving two new grants. Mayor Bob Stefanik is well known for going after as many grants that will help assist city coffers as possible. The city will receive a grant from the Elks for city Wi-Fi, as well as a grant from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), for a sidewalk project. NRFD adds safety vehicles to its fleet
Both the North Royalton Police and Fire Departments are updating their fleets with new vehicles this year. The Fire Department has received a new ladder and engine, now called Ladder1 and Engine1. The Police Department will receive four SUVs and two motorcycles. On May 24, Ladder1 was delivered. That will be replacing the department’s current ladder truck that was built in 1995 and has been inoperable for several months. Sylvia Jensen, pageant director, takes final bow at 101
Sylvia Jensen (nee Salerno), 101, a beloved friend to many in the North Royalton community, passed away May 13, at the age of 101. Sylvia had been a part of the North Royalton beauty pageant since the year North Royalton celebrated its sesquicentennial in 1968. In addition to running the North Royalton pageant for 50 years, she also served as executive director of the Miss Greater Cleveland and Miss Cuyahoga County pageants.
