There was plenty to see and do for both youngsters and oldsters at the North Royalton Safety Fair which was held on Saturday, May 21, at Fire Station Number One on Royalton Road. Youngsters got to climb in and on the Fire Engines that the North Royalton Fire Department had parked outside. They got to converse with “Coastie” a talking tugboat from the Ohio Division of Watercraft. In addition, the North Royalton Police Department has one of its motorcycles parked inside the Fire Station, with its lights flashing. 1989 - Construction on the new police station located at Bennett and Royalton Roads was slated to begin by year’s end 1989. The new station would be 24,000 square foot, two level facility with entry access on both floors directly from the outside. The new polices station was expected to be fully operational by late summer 1990. City wins latest round in Gas/Oil appeal
The latest round of the oil/gas drilling case has come to a close. The City of North Royalton recently learned that they prevailed in the latest round in the Ohio Court of Appeals, Tenth Appellate District. The decision was rendered on May 17 on the matter of Richard J. Simmers, Chief, Division of Oil & Gas Resources Management versus the City of North Royalton, The case was based on a mandatory pooling order for the area north of Royalwood Road, west of State Road, requested by Cutter Oil. 1986 - The North Royalton school district was hoping the voters would approve a 4.75 mil, two-year levy on February 4. The school district expected a $1.5 million short fall for the 1986 – 87 school year. The fully accredited school system with innovative nationally recognized programs takes years to develop. Once cutting of essential maintenance, essential and special programs begins there is no way to catch up. Hundreds use Servant Saturday to help and give back to community
Area resident Jack N. was grateful to see three carloads of volunteers from Royal Redeemer Church show up at his front door on Saturday, May 7. The volunteers were there as part of “Servant Saturday.” They and 325 church members were out in the community to help Jack and other families and non-profits with projects that they couldn’t get done themselves. Jack had just gotten home from the hospital, and he needed their help in getting his yard back in tip-top shape. “It means a lot to me that they came.
