Emma Kmet celebrates 107th birthday
On January 31, 1915, North Royalton was not quite 100 years old when a future North Royalton resident was born to Suzanna and Paul Demian in the Tremont area of Cleveland. They named their new addition, Emma Blanche Demian. Tremont at that time was positively cosmopolitan. Emma’s dad owned a corner meat and grocery store and later did furniture repair and refinishing for Cleveland’s high-end furniture stores. County to rebuild the West 130 Street bridge
The bridge that spans the east branch of the Rocky River on West 130 Street is scheduled to be rebuilt by Cuyahoga County next year. West 130 Street is shared by North Royalton and Strongsville, as it is the boundary between both cities. North Royalton City Council recently adopted an ordinance that recognizes the need and purpose of improvement. It gives consent to Cuyahoga County to participate in the cost of the construction. School Superintendent shares how Calamity Days are determined
Snow, ice and cold have luckily not been too much of an issue in November, December and most of January, but, is now starting to affect daily decisions of the North Royalton School District. Luckily, the January 17 storm did not affect school, as the district was off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. At the time of this writing, forecasters are predicting another storm coming. EMS levy is approved for the May ballot
North Royalton voters will see an EMS levy on the May 3 ballot, as the North Royalton City Council adopted legislation 6-0 at its February 1 meeting. Ward 4 Council Representative Jeremy Dietrich was absent from that meeting. The legislation was the second step necessary to place the measure on the May ballot. The first piece of legislation, which declares the necessity of the replacement, was unanimously adopted at the January 18 meeting, after Fire Chief Bob Chegan’s presentation to the Council Safety Committee on the proposed 1.7 mill replacement levy for EMS services. City looking to make a splash this summer
The City of North Royalton continues its execution of their Memorial Park Master Plan, which, hopefully will make a real splash with kids this summer. This project is one of several that is taking place at Memorial Park this year. The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation that accepts the bid of Cook Paving and Construction Company to handle the splash pad project, which includes a shade structure.
