Nationwide labor shortages have local effects

It seems like everywhere you look, you see “help wanted” signs. This isn’t just true of North Royalton, but is a part of a nationwide labor shortage that has been taking place for some time. Businesses have been struggling to find employees, some that have not returned after last year’s layoffs and the expansion of unemployment benefits. Happy Halloween

Halloween Home Decorating Contest and Trick or Treating City Council is again doing a Halloween Home Decoration Contest. Discard old meds on Drug Take-Back Day Saturday

Saturday is Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. This event allows residents to prevent unused and expired meds from ending up in the wrong hands and keep our environment clean by properly disposing of both prescription and over-the-counter medications. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 23, with two convenient drop-off locations: Giant Eagle and the Timber Ridge Plaza. For those who can't make it or to properly dispose of your meds throughout the year, please remember that there is a convenient drop box located in the lobby of our Police Department at 14000 Bennett Road.

St. Albert’s parishioners take part in Service Day 2021

More than 2000 volunteers signed up for this year’s Parish Service Day, held on October 8-9, 2021. A variety of Blessings Bags for area nursing homes, hygiene bags for the Westside Catholic Center, St. Aloysius preschool, Cornerstone of Hope, layette bags for MetroHealth Friends of Mothers and Infants, and more were put together by over 1,200 volunteers. Several dozen other projects were completed. Some included preparing 310 fleece comfort blankets for the Christ Child Society “my stuff” bags for children in homeless shelters. School Board News

The North Royalton Board of Education held their October meeting on Monday, October 11. The Board approved the Fiscal Year 2022 Five-Year Forecast. It then approved additions to the comprehensive continuous improvement plan grants for 2021-22: ARP IDEA Special Education, $225,578.46; ARP IDEA Early Childhood, $16,699.28. The Board approved the following 2021-22 fund appropriation adjustments: Permanent Improvement, from $2,907,250 to $3,392,250; 006 Food Service, from $898,900. to $1,717.648.63; 019 Other Local Grants, from $278,465.16 to $291,088.84; 516 IDEA, from $1,107,986.92 to $1,333,5 ....
