Now that fall is here, the road projects of the 2025 Road Maintenance Program throughout the City have either been completed or are close to completion. Every year, the City develops a plan of the roads that are in the most need and sets a budget to complete those projects. There are a few projects, however, that are ongoing, so motorists should take note.
This year, the City had budgeted $1,861,733 for road reconstruction. That amount does include $325,778 for State Road sidewalks with a possible $200,000 grant. Of the total, $680,955 was set for the estimated total cost of paving Akins Road and $950,000 set for the estimated total cost for paving Abbey Road, which, according to Antoskiewicz, was to be done when the sewer work is completed. Additional funding for both of those projects through $250,000 grants, each, comes from an agreement with Cuyahoga County from the Cuyahoga Council 2025-26 50/50 Funding Program. Also included, was $160,000 for asphalt and concrete repairs, which was done by the City’s Service Department. An additional $255,000 had also been budgeted for these expenditures.
According to the City’s October newsletter, “The Ohio Turnpike Infrastructure Commission’s State Road Turnpike bridge project, which is being done to repair and rehab the bridge decking over the Turnpike, should be completed and the roadway reopened to traffic at some point in October. In addition to replacing the existing bridge deck, proper 5-foot wide sidewalks were also installed on the new structure to provide safer passage for pedestrians, as part of the project. We will announce on Facebook when the roadway opens. We appreciate your patience during this lengthy closure.”
Also, many North Royalton motorists use Wallings Road to access I-77. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation District 12, “Wallings Rd. bridge over I-77 & the I-77 south ramps at Wallings Rd. will be closed beginning Monday, April 7, for approximately 1 year. Work will completely replace and widen the bridge and reconfigure the ramps. Detour will utilize Pleasant Valley Road.” The project is still in the construction phase.
