The North Royalton City Council appointed David J. Quolke as the new Ward 4 Council Representative.  Council voted 5-1, with Ward 6 Council Representative Ed Cyngier voting for a different candidate.  Quolke was appointed on May 29, after Council interviewed four candidates for the position.
Quolke replaces Mary Gorjanc, who moved from the Ward 4 Council position to Council President on May 7, after Paul Marnecheck moved to the Mayoral position upon the retirement of Larry Antoskiewicz on May 1.
“North Royalton City Council members are grateful to the four residents who applied to be the Ward 4 Council Representative, each with their unique talents and experience,” stated Council President Gorjanc.  “We voted to appoint David Quolke who has a wealth of public service experience as the President of the 5,000 member Cleveland Teacher’s Union from 2008-2020.  In that position, he dealt with State and Local governments.  He is now retired but will bring skills honed over the years:  actively listening to people and as he said, “addressing their problems head-on.”  We on Council look forward to working with David to continue to improve our city.”
Quolke has been a resident of North Royalton for 28 years.  His profile states that he is an “accomplished public servant and labor leader with over 40 years of experience in educational instruction, union leadership and executive board governance, is skilled in labor-management relations, high stakes negotiations and public speaking, experienced in navigating state-level legislative processes.”  His experience includes Alternate Commissioner, Ohio Elections Commission from 2023 to 2025; President, Cleveland Teachers Union from 2008 to 2020 and Orientation and Mobility Instructor, Cleveland Metropolitan School District from 1984 to 2008.  He holds a Bachelor of the Arts in Social Service Degree from Cleveland State University.
“I am truly honored and humbled to be appointed to fill the Ward 4 vacancy. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. I am anxious to get to work alongside an incredible group of council members and the mayor,” stated Quolke after his appointment.
