The newest Strategic Plan of the North Royalton City Schools was recently released. The plan will span August 2022 to July 2025, with the mission “We Inspire and Empower Learners.”
In a recent communication to parents, North Royalton School Superintendent, Mike Laub, stated, “the strategic plan committee met several times in the spring of 2022 and consisted of more than 170 residents, parents, Board members, staff, and students who were involved with the development of our plan. While this plan does not represent all we do, it represents the items that the team identified that we believe will have a significant impact on moving the District forward and have the greatest positive impact on our students.”
The stated vision for the plan is “Our educational community will be a model in identifying individual student needs and providing comprehensive support.” It states the following belief:
“In a culture that promotes respect and integrity
In collaboration among schools, communities and families
Communication is essential
In a balance between interpersonal relationships and technology
All students are capable of learning and learn in different ways at different rates
In equal access for every student.”
The four areas of focus for this Strategic Plan are broken down in Culture and Communication; Curriculum and Instruction; Safety and Security; and Finances and Capital Assets. Each area is then broken down by Staff Collaboration and Unity; Transition Plan; and Create a District Communication Plan. Each group is then further broken down by Task, Responsibility, Resource and Timeline. “We have already started working on these tasks and we are excited to move through this process in the next two-to-three years,” said Laub. “This is not a static process, as we know changes will need to be made along the way, based on circumstances. But this plan will serve as a guide to what we will be doing to continue to make our district a great place for students, families, staff and the community.”
Culture and Communication
Some of the tasks listed include evaluating an employee recognition program; staff involvement in discussions and decision-making; and creating a specific plan for communicating with transportation.
Curriculum and Instruction
Some of the tasks listed include explore a community service requirement for graduation; exploring offering world language in earlier grades; create a process/course for college planning; and explore life skills and study skills offerings.
Safety and Security
Some of the tasks listed include adding cameras throughout the district, based on safety needs; explore vape detectors for the High School and Middle School; explore safety grants to purchase added supports; explore adding mental health supports.
Finances and Capital Assets
Some of the tasks listed include updating the current performing arts center/explore building a new facility; create a new home locker room to finish stadium project; turf softball and baseball fields; renovate the bus facility; fix tennis courts and line them for pickleball; use facilities to generate revenue and continue to explore ways to reduce costs and stretch current levy cycle.
Laub thanked “all those who committed their time to the development of this plan.” The entire Strategic Plan can be viewed in its entirety on the school district’s website at www.northroyaltonsd.org/StrategicPlan1.aspx.
