One great way to enjoy the summer is to see a movie under the stars! The city will be hosting a Movie in the Park, at Memorial Park, on Friday, June 28. The name of the movie is a mystery! Here’s a hint: it’s a family oriented movie about a cute, little dog that travels hundreds of miles throughout a Colorado wilderness in an effort to search for her owner. Did you get the clue?
Mayor Bob Stefanik said that since last year’s festivities for the city’s bicentennial celebration were such a big hit, he wanted to continue to offer opportunities for residents to get together and enjoy the summer. The thought of having a series of Movies in the Park came to mind. “This came out of the community picnic last year,” said Stefanik. “We wanted to do that, but because of construction at the schools, we could not provide for an alternate location,” he said. The school district’s Performing Arts Center at the High School was used last year as an alternate located if the weather didn’t cooperate. The school is currently in the midst of a major building project, which completely ties up the parking lot at the High School and Middle School. In addition, the High School is currently under renovation/construction.
“We will try a few community movies this year. We plan for one more in August if this one is successful and hopefully more throughout the year. We do want to bring back the community picnics once the school’s construction project is over.” Since there is no alternate location, Stefanik said that if the weather doesn’t cooperate, an alternate date will be posted on the city’s website:www. northroyaton.org.
There will be no bad seat, as the giant screen will be easily seen from all angles, placed on the island in the middle of the lake. “It’s like an ampitheater,” said Stefanik. The movie is being rented by the city through FunFlicks.
Movie goers are encouraged to arrive by 8 p.m. to enjoy the refreshments. The movie will start between 8:45 and 9 p.m. The restrooms at City Hall will be open during the event.
Mayor Bob Stefanik invites residents to come and enjoy the movie. You don’t even have to bring the popcorn! He will be serving up hot dogs, drinks and popcorn! All you need is a blanket and/or lawn chairs. Everything is free of charge. For the name of the movie, visit our website at royaltonrecorder.com.
