City sets plans for 2024 sponsored community events

Even though it’s only February, the City Event Committee has already organized the list of city-sponsored events for 2024. This will be the third year the committee has gathered to offer opportunities for residents to gather as neighbors of North Royalton. Three events have been added to last year’s offerings. The Solar Eclipse Bash will take place on April 8; the Touch-a-Truck/National Police Night Out will take place on August 6; and a second Parkapalooza will take place on September 21. Safety Town plans move forward

The final push is being made to construct the new Safety Town. City and School officials have been discussing the future of the new and improved Safety Town program for North Royalton children for several years. It’s an offering that has been made available to children for many years through the work of the North Royalton School District and the North Royalton Police and Fire Departments. Resident dies in Sunrise Cove Fire

One North Royalton resident is dead and two others injured after a fire broke out at the Sunrise Cove Condominiums on York Road. The fire took place on Sunday, January 21. A call came into dispatch at about 2:45 p.m., reporting black smoke seen coming from the second floor of the building at 9600 Cove Drive. Dispatch advised the North Royalton Fire Department that a caller reported hearing explosions. The fire started in the first floor unit and traveled into the second floor unit. The first meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Thursday, January 4. The Board adopted the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Tax Budget. It then approved the following appropriation adjustment: 019 Recreation Facilities, from $83,175.55 to $704,118.13. School Superintendent, Mike Laub, reported that school was back in session after the holiday break and “it’s been a good week. . . School Board holds yearly Organizational Meeting

The North Royalton Board of Education held their yearly organizational meeting on Thursday, January 4. The Board elected Jackie Arendt as President of the 2024 School Board and Lisa Shuck as Vice President. The Board approved the appointment of Jackie Arendt as Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Representative. The Board approved the scheduled dates for the Work Sessions and Regular Board meetings. Plans in place for April 8 Solar Eclipse Bash

Although it’s still a few months away, the upcoming total solar eclipse is on the minds of some people in North Royalton. The once-in-a-lifetime event will take place on April 8, 2024. North Royalton schools will be closed for the event and plans are being made for a special event to take place on that date. North Royalton falls into the 124-mile-wide band in Ohio that will experience the total solar eclipse. City Council passes 2024 Budget

The 2024 Budget for the City of North Royalton was unanimously adopted by City Council at their final meeting in December. According to Ohio law, Council must adopt its yearly budget by March 31 of that year. The measure was initially introduced in November and a special Finance Committee meeting took place on December 5 to discuss the budget. Council was presented with the budget, prepared by the Mayor and North Royalton Finance Director, Jenny Esarey after meetings with the various city department heads took place for input. Schools change monthly Board meeting times

The North Royalton Board of Education has changed the schedules of their monthly work sessions and regular meetings, after decades of a fixed schedule. North Royalton again changes General Assembly District

North Royalton has again changed Ohio General Assembly Districts, after a new map has been approved by the Ohio General Assembly, as adopted by the Ohio Redistricting Commission. The new district will be in effect for the upcoming March 19 primary election. The Ohio redistricting process normally takes place after each census. In 2022, the process was affected by anti-gerrymandering rules that were approved in 2015, plus lawsuits that were filed against the maps that were previously drawn. Council adopts new sewer rate increase schedule

The North Royalton City Council approved legislation that will increase the five-year sewer rates, beginning this year. The measure was introduced at the November 21 City Council meeting and then passed unanimously at the December 19 City Council meeting.
