Was it worth the hype? Was it worth precautions? Was it worth the celebration? You bet! It was the biggest solar event in northern Ohio since 1806. For four magical minutes, the entire region turned to night. Our rotating earth and revolving moon danced together to block the sun, creating a slice of night in the afternoon sky. Haller named new Wastewater Superintendent

Edward J. Haller has been appointed as the new North Royalton Wastewater Superintendent. He is replacing Mark A. Smith, who recently retired. Smith had held the position since December 17, 2018. Haller began his tenure on April 1, 2024, after an ordinance was unanimously adopted, introduced by Mayor Antoskiewicz, that confirmed the Mayor’s appointment of Haller to the position, at the March 20 City Council meeting. Council approves new rubbish contract

The North Royalton City Council approved a new contract with Rumpke Waste & Recycling Services, opting to continue with the same type of service that is currently in place. The current contract with Rumpke Waste and Recycling Services will conclude on May 1. Under that contract, Rumpke has been manually collecting the solid waste rubbish, with the recyclable material being collected in an automated method. Mother Nature cooperated and although there were some clouds, North Royalton residents were able to get a good look at the April 8 total solar eclipse. North Royalton was included in the 124-mile-wide band in Ohio that experienced the total solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon align in a straight or almost straight configuration. The solar eclipse occurs only during a new Moon, when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, covering the Sun. The March meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Wednesday, March 13. Board member Lisa Shuck was absent. The Board nominated Jackie Arendt for the Ohio School Board Association’s Recognition Award. Assistant Superintendent, Melissa Vojta gave an update from the Curriculum and Instruction and Teaching and Learning Team on the K-12 curriculum alignment. Council and administration talk trash options

Over the past few weeks, Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz and the North Royalton City Council have been discussing the options for rubbish/recycling removal. The current contract with Rumpke Waste and Recycling Services will expire on May 1. Council originally discussed the options with the Mayor after the bid openings on February 28 produced only one bidder, Rumpke.
