Deer hunting season ends with success

With the passage of ordinances for the hunting of white tailed deer last year, hunters have been able to hunt within the city borders. The first full season has concluded. The Ohio Deer Hunting Season for 2016-2017, for archery started on September 24 and concluded on February 5, 2017, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. “It was pretty successful,” said North Royalton Chief of Police, John Elek. Some residents oppose group home location

About 45 residents attended a public hearing and Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday, February 22. Most residents attended to be heard and to learn more about three proposed group homes that were on the Planning Commission agenda. Three agenda items sought a conditional use approval and site plan approval for three proposed group homes, to be located on York Road, Sprague Road and Delsy Drive. Michael R. Chief of Police John Elek to retire this month

North Royalton Chief of Police, John Elek, will retire after serving North Royalton since 1984. His retirement date is set for St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. Elek started his position as Chief of the North Royalton Police Department in 2012, after the retirement of Paul Bican. “He’s a great guy,” said Council President, Larry Antoskiewicz, of Elek. “I thank him for all his service and appreciate the way he has run the Police Department since he has been Chief. Three members of NRHS Girls Soccer Team sign Letters of Intent

Three seniors on the North Royalton Girls Soccer team fulfilled their dreams earlier this month when they signed their college scholarship offers. Jackie Clegg, Emily Mark and Keeley Malley inked their National Letters of Intent on February 2, in a signing ceremony in the North Royalton High School Gym. Moratorium placed on wireless communications facilities

Council unanimously adopted a 90-day moratorium on permits issued for the construction of wireless communication facilities, which fall under Chapter 1290. Wireless communication facilities include equipment, towers and antennas. The moratorium allows city officials to digest the information included in the state law that was passed in December. Hollywood Hounds break-in makes four in recent weeks

Police received a call on Friday, February 3, at about 5 a.m., from a Plain Dealer carrier who was delivering to the store in the plaza. The carrier reported that the large front window of Hollywood Hounds Pet Spa had been shattered. Hollywood Hounds Pet Spa is located at 10019 West 130 Street, north of Albion Road. Council Continues Moratorium on Medical Marijuana Law

On February 7, City Council voted 6-1 in favor of extending the current six month moratorium for another six months. Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw cast the only dissenting vote, stating that he felt the moratorium should be a year. Last June, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed House Bill 523 into law, making Ohio the 25th state to adopt a medical marijuana law. North Royalton senior forward Gabby White had no idea what was happening. The Lady Bears had just defeated Brecksville-Broadview Heights 58-40 on January 28.
