Chamber members see first-hand perils of texting and driving

Members of the North Royalton Chamber of Commerce met at Carrie Cerino’s Ristorante on Wednesday, April 19, for their monthly meeting. Amy Kuntz and Sherie Stafford, from the Partnership for a Healthy North Royalton, talked about the Heroin epidemic and their three-part presentation that deals with the issue. North Royalton, like other communities, is no stranger to Heroin and Fentanyl overdose

Last year in North Royalton alone, there were 26 drug overdoses and deaths, according to the Director of Partnership for a Healthy North Royalton (PHNR), Amy Kuntz. As of April 25 of this year, there have been 13 drug overdoses, resulting in two deaths in North Royalton, according to North Royalton Police Department Detective, David Loeding. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” he noted. City goes digital to sell unwanted equipment

The city is changing the way it’s doing business regarding disposing of items that are no longer needed. Rather than having a yearly auction, they are joining the digital age and will be placing items on GovDeals.com. The internet auction services is similar to an ebay setup, but caters to government entities. “This is a great asset to the city,” said North Royalton Fire Chief, Bob Chegan, who initiated the idea for the city to join. Planning begins for Chippewa Headwater Park

Officials from the city of North Royalton, the YMCA and the North Royalton Library recently met to discuss the Chippewa Creek wetland trail project, where the content, design, associated programs and conservation was discussed, as well as the security, management and storm water issues. Both the Library and YMCA have expressed interest in supplying programs that would coincide with the Park. Discard old drugs safely on Drug Take Back Day – April 29

The U.S. Poison Control Center receives about 500,000 calls per year about young children who take drugs that were not intended for them. In most cases, the drugs belonged to a parent or grandparent. According to Safekids.org, 64,000 children go to the emergency room due to accidental poisoning. It is critical that all medications, both prescription and over the counter, are placed up and away from children’s reach and out of sight. Ciaccia-Fenos named to Planning Commission

North Royalton resident Jessica Ciaccia-Fenos has been named as the Mayor’s appointment to the city’s Planning Commission. The North Royalton City Council unanimously approved the appointment at its March 7 meeting for a term that is effective on March 7 and expires on September 29, 2017. She is filling the place of Cheryl Hannan, who stepped down to take the Council position vacancy of Ward 5, after Councilman Steve Muller resigned in January. Metroparks adds archery to recreational offerings

North Royalton residents now have another form of recreation right in their back yards. They can add archery to the list of recreational offerings. The Cleveland Metroparks has converted the former York Road Picnic Area to an archery range. The area is located on Valley Parkway, just west of York Road. The new range, opened on April 1, offers twenty-two shooting lanes that can accommodate all levels of skill, ranging from beginner to expert archer. Only in North Royalton can you have five inches of snow one day and 70 degrees and sun with a visit from the Easter Bunny just two days later.
