New development coming to Bennett’s Corners

Recently the North Royalton Planning Commission unanimously approved two projects that will help spur the city’s economic development. The two projects include an equipment and truck dealership for Best Equipment Company and a Speedway gas station. The Commission also granted preliminary approval for a retail building near the new gas station. Last June, the North Royalton City Council unanimously approved legislation that allows Mayor Bob Stefanik to enter into an agreement for Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) tax incentives for Best Equipment Company. Under the CRA Program, those owning ....

Royalton Recorder marks 75 years of documenting life in North Royalton (Years 2009 – 2010)

January 5, 2009 was the first day back to school from the Christmas break. The traffic outside of NR High School was crowded but manageable. Mother Nature cooperated; it was dry and not too cold. The School District started the year by initiating the cutbacks necessary due to the failure of the 5.9 Emergency Operating Levy on November 4. The cutbacks included eliminating bussing for the high school students, dropping some course offerings, limiting school building access, and postponing textbook and technology upgrades. In addition $100 participation fee will be required from High School and M ....

If the collection were paper clips, the total would be about 298,848, and if the collection were M&M’s plain candy, the total would be approximately 141,500. The Girls team is champions of the National Division of the Suburban League.  Back on October 12, the Lady Bears defeated Stow-Munroe Falls 2-1 to wrap up the Division Championship.  It was the first outright Girls Soccer Championship for North Royalton in school history, although they shared the championship back in 2006. Head Coach Pete Ragone had a good feeling that the Lady Bears would claim the Championship.  “On the bus on the way to the Stow game it was very quiet ....

Proposed EMS Levy would replace current levy

North Royalton voters will be asked to vote on a safety issue on the upcoming November 8 ballot.  If passed in November, the five-year, $1.7 mill EMS levy would replace the current $1.7 mill levy which currently is set to expire at the end of 2018.  If passed, the new levy will then take the place of the old levy, which will then start being collected in 2017.  The new levy will raise taxes, as it will be a replacement, rather than a renewal. This is the only five-year levy that the city of North Royalton is currently running.  It was  started in the late 1980s, when the North Royalton ....

Clean out your medicine cabinet, keep drugs off the street and help save a life

Drug take-back day is Saturday, Oct. 22

Too often, today’s headlines are about drug use, citing the drug epidemic and reporting that drug overdose deaths are reaching record highs.  In other media, television commercials and print advertisements about prescription medicines are as plentiful as car or cell phone ads.  These abundant messages have a connection, as addiction can start right at home, in your own medicine cabinet. Many medicine cabinets contain unused, unwanted or expired prescriptions and over-the-counte ....

Residents advised to beware of scam

Recently, the North Royalton Police Department has received several calls regarding a scam.  Residents have reported that a man knocks on their door and identifies himself as an employee from the Illuminating Company.  He reportedly tells the residents that the Illuminating Company is replacing poles in the area and that power may be cut to the residence.  He then tries to gain access to the home. Police are advising residents to be mindful of those coming to their door, claiming to be a utility worker.  Other stories they could use is that they are there to check your meters, ....
