Council votes to place question on term extensions on ballot

North Royalton voters will have an opportunity in November to decide if they would like to make a charter change. The change would not only increase the term of Ward Council Representatives from two to four years, but, could potentially increase the actual term from its current twelve-year limit. If passed in November, some current members of the North Royalton City Council could potentially increase their term limit from twelve years to eighteen years, if they win in the next two Council elections. Currently, three members of City Council have already served two terms and two have served one ....

Big catches for Fishing Derby winners

The 18th annual George Modock, Jr. Memorial Fishing Derby was held on June 9,at Memorial Park, 14600 State Road at the lower pavilion. There were prizes for the overall winners for first place, second place and third place. All prizes were donated by Mrs. George Modock, Jr. In the 7 - 9 age group, Beau Kish came in first (22.5 inches); Blake Gardnoshka (20.5) came in second; and third place went to Sara Nevzil (7.25 inches). School Board News

The North Royalton Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 12. A resident addressed the Board regarding bullying at the Middle School. The Board accepted bids for general liability, fleet and umbrella insurance from Ohio Casualty (Todd Associates/Liberty Mutual Group) for the insurance contract for the District from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. This is part of the Ohio Schools Council Program and the vendor is the preferred vendor based on the Request for Qualifications (RFQs) that were submitted. Council updates Food Truck Legislation

Council unanimously adopted legislation updating ordinances regarding mobile food units, commonly known as food trucks. The North Royalton City Council adopted legislation regulating food trucks in 2021 after over a year of discussions. Up until that point, food trucks were allowed in the city through the use of special event permits. City Council introduced legislation at their June 6 meeting that would place the question of extending the terms of each Ward Council Representative from the current two years, to four years. The measure was introduced by Ward 1 Council Rep John Nickell, Ward 2 Council Rep Linda Barath, Ward 3 Council Rep Joanne Krejci, Ward 4 Council Rep Jeremy Dietrich, Ward 5 Council Rep Heidi Webber and Ward 6 Council Rep Mike Wos. Graduates celebrate, commence next phase

The 117th commencement of North Royalton High School began with practice in the school gym on June 1. All 332 students attended this practice. The gym was set up exactly the way the seating was on stage at the State Theater. Everyone knew their place in line and how to move to the correct row and seat. On Friday, June 2, all graduates took a final school bus ride from the school gym to the State Theater. North Royalton City Schools use of a Therapy Dog is approved

The North Royalton City Schools (NRCS) and the City of North Royalton have entered into a memorandum of understanding, accepting an addendum regarding the School Resource Officers, permitting the use of a therapy dog. The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation at its June 6 meeting that authorizes the Mayor to enter into the agreement. The North Royalton Board of Education agreed to send a legislative platform to the Ohio School Board Association (OSBA) in the hopes to have the items integrated into their platform, which is amended each year. Ohio enacts Distracted Driving Law

In the State of Ohio, as of April 4, the law prohibits drivers to hold a cell phone or electronic device in your hand, lap or other parts of the body while driving. Those seen violating this law can be pulled over. According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, “drivers over 18 years old can make or receive calls via hands-free devices, including: speaker phone, earpiece, wireless headset, electronic watch, connecting phone to vehicle.
