Harvest Fest canceled, will be part of Halloween Madness

Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz recently announced that the annual Harvest Festival that was scheduled for Sunday, September 18, has been canceled. He added that the Halloween Madness event, scheduled for Saturday, October 22, will not only go on, but be enhanced with some of the events that would have been included with the Harvest Fest. The Harvest Fest has taken place for many years, sponsored by the Holiday Lighting Committee. The event started as a fund-raiser to help pay for the holiday lights on the City Green. Although Republican voters in North Royalton did not have a candidate for an Ohio House Representative to vote for in the August 2 primary, they will have an opportunity to elect a Republican candidate come November 8. The August meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, August 15. During the June 29 meeting, the minutes were questioned by Board Member Jeremiah Sawyer, who stated that the conclusion regarding discussion on parental/children’s rights at that meeting, was that the District’s lawyer was going to address the Board with policy options. “All he did, was come in and defend his recommendation,” said Sawyer. Results in record-setting proceeds for 4-H Youth and Scholarship Fund Local community businesses and individuals smashed auction records on Saturday night, August 13, at the annual 4-H Jr. Fair Livestock Auction at the 125th Cuyahoga County Fair, doubling the previous year proceeds, for a total of $61,680. North Royalton residents who have recently received their electric bills may have noticed that their bills seem rather high. They may have thought that the bill was high due to the hot weather experienced this summer. They may be only half correct. Those residents who are NOPEC customers may want to check the “charges from NOPEC” in the middle right section of the first page of the bill. There, it will show the billing period, the basic charge, which is broken down to the number of killowatt hours (KWH) x the NOPEC rate. For the August bill, that rate increased to 0.120000. Penalty increased for failure to stop for school bus

Now that the new school year has begun, drivers should keep in mind that when approaching a school bus that is in the process of dropping off children, they need to stop their vehicle. That goes for drivers who are facing the bus, or behind the bus. In 2020, the North Royalton City Council adopted legislation that increased the fine from $500 to $1,000, for those who fail to stop. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, we are back and gearing up for the 136th annual North Royalton Community Festival to be held August 26, 27, and 28 on the City Green at the corner of Ridge and Royalton Roads. Hours are 6 - 11 p.m. on Friday; noon-11 p.m. on Saturday; and noon - 9 p.m. on Sunday. Entertainment is lined up at the gazebo stage for the enjoyment of visitors all weekend long. NR Police Dept. receives a grant for new body armor

The North Royalton Police Department recently received notification that they will secure about $11,000 in grant funding for the purchase of body armor and plates for the officers. The grant was secured from the Ohio Law Enforcement Body Armor Program. In 2018, then-Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the plan to create a new program to help Ohio’s local law enforcement agencies purchase body armor vests. The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) agreed to support funding the effort through an expansion of its safety grant program. The BWC offers its Safety Intervention Grant ....
