NRHS students surpass goal in annual Food Drive

“This was by far the best food drive we coordinated in over a decade,” said Jonathan Dietrich. “I'm so thrilled, proud and physically overwhelmed as my room is FILLED with food.” The food drive at North Royalton High School ran from September 27 through October 7. The goal: 2,021 food items in the year 2021. In previous years, the school would average 900-1,100 items. An extra incentive this year was a raffle of a $25 gift card. County re-appraisals show increased property valuations

Cuyahoga County has recently sent property owners their reappraisals on their property. Notices were mailed to more than 489,000 properties in Cuyahoga County. As in many cases in Cuyahoga County, North Royalton property has seen an increase. According to the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office, “Under Ohio Law, (ORC 5713 and 5713.33) the County Fiscal Officer is responsible for the valuation of all real estate. Meals on Wheels marks 20th year here

The term Meals on Wheels goes back to the Blitz of London in WWII. Most people lost their homes and ability to cook for themselves, so the Women’s Volunteer Service for Civil Defense started cooking and delivering meals to homes and military food trucks called canteens. The canteens were mobile, so the meals became known as “Meals on Wheels.” In 1954, at the request of the Philadelphia Health & Welfare Council, home delivered meals began. City Council approves union contract, pay hikes

The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation that authorized Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz to enter into a two-year contract with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Ohio Council 8, Local 3410 (AFSCME) as the bargaining representative for certain members of the Wastewater and Service and Building Departments. This is the second, of the City’s union contracts this year to be approved. Health Fair and Family Expo offered info, products and services

Right on time at 9 a.m., the North Royalton Health Fair and Family Expo began with a free pancake and sausage breakfast, courtesy of President of Council Paul Marnecheck and his crew of fellow council members, Harry Swatzlander from Royalton Schools and Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz. It was the first stop before moving on to visit a whole list of vendors. Each person coming to the health fair received a bingo type sheet listing the vendors. Royal Redeemer dedication to Servant Saturday continues

It’s going to take something more than COVID to bring Servant Saturday to a halt. For the past 15 years, members of Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church have dedicated a Saturday in the spring and fall to help others in North Royalton and surrounding communities with various projects. Some of the activities involve raking leaves, yard work and household chores. St. Albert the Great Pet Blessing was a drive-by success

For more than a decade, St. Albert the Great has had a Blessing of the Pets on the first Sunday of October in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of dogs and animals. The one o’clock pet blessing was about to begin, but the usual gathering of pets on the lawn was missing. This year the pet blessing took place as a drive-by. Cars began to line up at 12:45 p.m., after the 11:30 a.m. Mass. The drive-by concept was certainly different, but done due to Covid precautions. City eyes Storefront Renovation Rebate Program

Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz and Council President Paul Marnecheck recently introduced legislation that would enable the city to start a storefront renovation rebate program for local businesses. The program has been designed by Community Development Coordinator Tom Jordan. According to Antoskiewicz, his office will be responsible for the implementation and administration of the program. Awareness and technology can help to apprehend vandals

Since September 11, residents in the Nottingham and Timber Ridge Estates, as well as Lytle Road have been the victims to various forms of vandalism. Several homes were egged, some mail boxes were removed and strewn about and a political yard sign was deconstructed and left on the lawn. Most of the incidents were reported on September 11, around midnight, September 17 and the evening of September 25. Residents on Lytle Road, Harrow Place, Greyfriars and Fawnhaven called in the reports. St. Albert the Great Parish has marked the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on the first Sunday in October with a blessing of our pets since 2014. St. Francis is associated with a love of nature through his beautiful prayer, The Canticle of the Sun, which praises the beautiful elements of nature and the earth as God’s gifts to humans.
