City road projects planned for 2021

In Northeast Ohio, many say there are only two seasons:   winter or construction season!  With that, the orange barrels are starting to appear, as construction season has begun and residents will be seeing road work starting around the city. The 2021 Road Repair Program is already in full swing, as the 2021 Road Repair Program was earmarked with the 2021 budget at the end of last year.  Council unanimously adopted the 2021 budget at their December, 15, 2020 meeting, which included $1.5 million for the road repair costs for 2021.  According to North Royalton Finance Dir ....

Prepare now, avoid travel snags later

Spring Break vacations and warm-weather trips may have been canceled last year, but they’re so on for this year. But before you grab those car keys or snag those online travel deals, there are some things to know and preparations to make. Car Care Nothing ruins a road trip faster than car trouble. Gary Stinnett, of Royalton Automotive, provided his best car maintenance tips for long travel on the road. • Wiper Blades: Winter road salt and corrosive materials can build up on wiper blades causing them to deteriorate and not work as well, Stinnett said. He recommends swapping your blades o ....

Local churches prepare for Easter season with precautions

The pandemic has made millions stop and reflect on many different things, but for Senior Pastor John Zahrte of Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church, one particular focus stands out. “It’s that God is still in control,” he said matter-of-factly about what the past year has taught him as a pastor. “That gives us peace, the knowledge that even when our world is unraveling, we’ve still got a God who’s got us in his hands. We’ve learned that and we’ve learned that the church doesn’t end with a pandemic. It adapts.” His church community is preparing for a second Easter season amidst ....

Children meet with the Easter Bunny on a sunny spring day

Last weekend’s photos with the Easter Bunny event, sponsored by the Royalton Hills Lions, was the first large-scale event conducted by a North Royalton civic organization in more than a year, and its success was two-fold: club members were thrilled to be with the public again meeting new faces and providing a service, and residents were happy to support the community and bring their children out to an enjoyable event. The weather was also a bonus providing clear, sunny skies and spring-like temperatures. “They are very excited to be here with the Easter Bunny,” said local parent Janelle ....

One Year In: Parenting lessons learned from the pandemic

Today – March 11 – marks exactly one year since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 a global pandemic. As a journalist and working mom of three children, I’m especially preferential to how this time has impacted families. While it’s safe to say that we’ve all come a long way since those first few terrifying and agonizing weeks of Spring 2020, there are still many who continue to struggle and cope. And for more still, the learning journey and daily rigmarole continues to evolve. I know this is true for me. My husband and I are working together as a team more than e ....

Schools provide preliminary updates on end-of-year events

“People will be able to plan for proms; they’ll be able to plan for graduation. There’s no reason these events cannot occur if we follow basic safety protocols.” These words, spoken by Gov. Mike DeWine during a Feb. 25 press conference, are the go-ahead high schoolers here and everywhere in Ohio have been waiting to hear. The Royalton Recorder reached out to local principals for updates on end-of-year school events like prom, commencement, field trips, picnics, special assemblies, and the like. “We are working hard towards providing as many of our traditional senior and end-of-t ....
