North Royalton City Schools Installs Stop Arm Cameras to School Buses

North Royalton City Schools’ mechanics have begun the installation of stop arm cameras to 13 of its District buses. These cameras are mounted on the exterior of the bus and give a clear view of the license plates of any vehicles illegally passing our stopped buses. This will be used, in addition to the driver’s report, to help the police issue citations to these drivers. After the District receives its nine new buses, there will be 22 total buses with stop arm cameras, which equals approximately one-third of its fleet. Mechanics in the transportation department also have begun the install ....

Will your family’s porch light be on or off this Halloween?

Up until this year, I thought I had trick-or-treated in every situation imaginable, both as a child and most recently as a mom of three. I’ve seen everything from freak snowstorms to torrential downpours to frigid cold to summer-like temperatures that left me sweating off my face paint as I ran through yards and mulched beds with friends (my apologies to those living in Sherwood Highlands from 1991-2002). After all, I’m a 90’s kid and I never let anything stop me from two hours of free candy (and nickels, toothbrushes, coupon vouchers, popcorn balls and other off-the-wall items folks in ....

City holding its own despite COVID pressures

The City of North Royalton continues to hold its own financially, despite the impact of the pandemic. North Royalton Finance Director Eric Dean recently reported to the North Royalton City Council Finance Committee, updating them on the city’s status. According to Dean, there was a $62,231 increase in tax collections for August. Year-to-date, however, he said that it was down, $474,000. He added that it was expected, as “when we did the original budget for the year, we didn’t expect to have the record year we did last year. We don’t budget for the money we think we’ll get, we budget ....

Under the Town Center District, currently retail is a usage allowable in that area. North Royalton Council President Paul Marnecheck said that “it didn’t jive with what I felt TCD was envisioned. The measure has been discussed in the North Royalton Council Building and Building Codes Co ....

NOPEC grant would bring Electric Charging Station

City officials are applying for a grant that would allow for the installation of an electric car charging station. The grant would be supplied by the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) in an effort to support electric vehicle-charging infrastructure. Although it is not known how many North Royalton residents own electric cars, North Royalton Community Development Director Tom Jordan said that the overall demographic of North Royalton fits that of people who would purchase an electric vehicle. Jordan stated that “35% of all vehicles are projected to be electric by 2030. We need the ....

North Royalton Garden Club to dedicate two new memorial markers on Sun., Sept. 27, at 10 a.m.

The North Royalton Garden Club will be dedicating two new memorial markers at the Veterans Memorial site at the North Royalton Cemetery on Sunday, September 27, at 10 a.m.  The Blue Star Memorial is a tribute to Armed Forces who have defended the United States of America.  These memorials were started by National Garden Clubs at the close of World War II.  Garden Club members visualized a living memorial, preferring to help beautify and preserve the country these men and women had fought for, rather than build stone monuments in their honor. Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz and local VFW and Ame ....

Local teachers sound off on a new normal of learning

It’s been a big week for the North Royalton City School students who have chosen to return to the classroom for traditional learning. As the local district begins its phased-in process for blended, in-person learning, teachers reflected on their preparations for the school year. Many local teachers, both at the city schools and at Saint Albert the Great (which offers fulltime, in-person learning and a virtual option), responded to our request for interviews and we share excerpts from their interviews here. What steps did teachers take this summer to prepare for the start of the school year? ....
