New shelter will be the “cat’s meow”

Like a lot of people, Beth Pearce grew up afraid of cats. Her family never owned any cats and she was never around them, so naturally the unfamiliar frightened her. Fast forward to 2020 and Pearce now spends her days around dozens of felines, serving as director of Stay-A-While Cat Shelter (formerly Bide-A-Wee, Scottish for “stay-a-while) in North Royalton. Pearce was there to celebrate July 21 as the shelter officially broke ground on a new facility set to open by spring of next year on York Delta Drive. Proposed Charter amendments address several areas

North Royalton voters will be able to decide if proposed amendments to the City’s Charter should be passed in the November 3 election. A City’s Charter defines the organization, functions, powers and essential procedures of the local government, as a constitution does for a country. The Charter Review Commission’s recommendations were approved in the form of ordinances at the July 7 City Council meeting. North Royalton High School English Teacher, Jonathan Dietrich, has earned the Ohio PTA “‘T’ in PTA Award” for promoting the PTA’s mission of engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for children to ensure they can reach their full potential. School District announces fall reopening plan

The North Royalton School District recently released plans to open up schools for the upcoming school year in a safe and responsible manner. “While we have come up with the plans that best suit our community, things change rapidly,” stated school officials. “As events in our city, county, region and state change, so may our plans. Construction has begun for Saint Albert the Great’s new Parish Life Center and should take less than one year to complete. For several years, patrons visiting the children’s section of North Royalton Branch Library have stared out at a large mulch bed just outside the space’s floor-to-ceiling windows. Ward 3 Councilman, Dan Langshaw, resigns after Council vote to bring charges

Ward 3 Councilman, Dan Langshaw, has resigned from the North Royalton City Council. On July 4, Langshaw posted his letter of resignation to North Royalton Mayor and Council President on social media. This comes after Council voted 6-0 to bring charges against him, after a recording of a questionable phone call to a city employee was released to the public regarding the recent jail closing issue. Police body cams soon to be operational

The North Royalton Police Department will soon be fully functioning with the assistance of body cameras and dash cams. North Royalton Police Chief Ken Bilinovich said that the cams are expected to be up and running by the middle of July. Training for the new cameras began in early July, after the new standard operating procedures were completed by the Lieutenant in charge, according to Bilinovich. Requests for assistance – and ways to find help – increase locally

It has been four months since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic and in that time requests for local emergency food assistance continue to trend upwards.
