Council, administration continue to research jail feasibility

The North Royalton Jail continues to be scrutinized by the city’s administration and City Council. They recently discussed the matter at a special Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday, July 14. Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz had announced the closing of the jail on April 29, due to budgetary concerns, but then on June 22, announced that it would remain open pending an opportunity for the Corrections Officers to reduce expenses and increase revenue. Existing with the Coyote and Fox in our residential areas

Some residents have been concerned about the wildlife in the area and the threat of rabies. It is not unusual to see a coyote in North Royalton, as well as in surrounding communities. Some communities, such as Parma and Strongsville, have also reported more sightings of red and grey fox. The coyote, is a dog-like animal, about 40-46 inches in length and weighs about 20-50 pounds. New shelter will be the “cat’s meow”

Like a lot of people, Beth Pearce grew up afraid of cats. Her family never owned any cats and she was never around them, so naturally the unfamiliar frightened her. Fast forward to 2020 and Pearce now spends her days around dozens of felines, serving as director of Stay-A-While Cat Shelter (formerly Bide-A-Wee, Scottish for “stay-a-while) in North Royalton. Proposed Charter amendments address several areas

North Royalton voters will be able to decide if proposed amendments to the City’s Charter should be passed in the November 3 election. A City’s Charter defines the organization, functions, powers and essential procedures of the local government, as a constitution does for a country. The Charter Review Commission’s recommendations were approved in the form of ordinances at the July 7 City Council meeting. North Royalton High School English Teacher, Jonathan Dietrich, has earned the Ohio PTA “‘T’ in PTA Award” for promoting the PTA’s mission of engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for children to ensure they can reach their full potential. The North Royalton School District recently released plans to open up schools for the upcoming school year in a safe and responsible manner. “While we have come up with the plans that best suit our community, things change rapidly,” stated school officials. “As events in our city, county, region and state change, so may our plans.
