Number of white tailed deer continues to drop

The numbers are in for the latest deer hunting season. The Ohio Deer Hunting Season for 2019-20, for archery started on September 28, 2019 and concluded on February 2, 2020, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. With this season’s end, North Royalton Chief of Police, Ken Bilinovich, reported the 2019-20 season’s update to the Council Safety Committee at their meeting on January 21. “Girls on the Run” program develops confidence and builds character

Growing up isn’t always easy but an after-school program at the city’s three elementary schools is helping give young girls the tools and confidence they need to navigate the rocky road of adolescence. “Girls on the Run,” a curriculum-based program that uses running to help girls in third and fourth grade develop confidence and self-respect, build character, foster an appreciation for healthy habits and give back to northeast Ohio, meets twice a week for ten weeks and is led by individual teachers and staff at each building. Drum roll please … Skipping Stones Band heads to Tri C High School Rock Off

Skipping Stones is a local band with a global flare! Jancy Zhang, the band’s female vocalist, is an international student from China who attends Walsh Jesuit High School and is a senior. The remaining members of the band are all local, talented musicians! Alex Manson, percussion, is a freshman at North Royalton High School and plays bass drum #5 for the marching band as well as drums for the Jazz Band. The second January meeting of the North Royalton City Council took place on Tuesday, January 21. Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw was elected by Council as the Council Pro Tempore, which means that he would represent as the head of City Council, should Council President Paul Marnecheck be absent or unavailable. All North Royalton City School buildings receive Ohio Department of Education Purple Star Designation

The Ohio Department of Education has selected Albion Elementary School, Royal View Elementary School, Valley Vista Elementary School, North Royalton Middle School and North Royalton High School as 2020 Purple Star designees. The first meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, January 13. School Superintendent Greg Gurka recognized the North Royalton Board of Education, as a part of Board Recognition Month. “As you know, January is School Board Recognition month,” said Gurka. “Being a Board member is a rather thankless job and one in which you will not get wealthy at. Council votes to eliminate position of Safety Director

The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation at their January 21 meeting that eliminated the position of Safety Director, currently held by Bruce Campbell. The position was last created in 2008. Before that time, North Royalton did not have the position of Safety Director since 1992. The previous mayors had assumed the duties of that position before that point. One of North Royalton High School’s (NRHS) most appreciated and valued traditions is the publication of “Inkwell,” a literary magazine celebrating excellence in student writing, art and photography. On December 12, the 2019 edition was unveiled and celebrated in a room filled with family, friends, teachers and staff. Royal Harmony began the evening by singing a medley of holiday songs. City Energy Cost Savings Program nears completion

The North Royalton Energy Cost Savings Program is nearing completion. The plan for the program began last summer. In the early part of 2019, the North Royalton City Council approved two ordinances earlier last April, allowing the city to go forward with the program. The ordinances approved the contract, as well as set up the financing. One ordinance authorized the Mayor to enter into an energy savings performance contract with Leopardo, LLC.
