Weather prompted some pets to come two-by-two for blessing

The book of Genesis: 1:25, tells us that God made the beasts and the birds and the fish and things that crawl or creep about. He saw that it was good. We love our animals; they serve us and we care for them. That is why the sixth annual blessing of the pets took place at St. Albert the Great, on the lawn in front of the school. Furry friends, and a one box turtle named Betty, brought their owners to the blessing In honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of pets. St. Francis is frequently depicted feeding the birds with a wolf lying calmly at his feet. Statuettes can ....

October, as many of us know, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but here’s something we may not know: 1 in 8 women will (that’s will, not may) develop breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. It’s a shocking statistic from breastcancer.org, but when we stop to think about it, almost all of us know someone who has had breast cancer. “A lot of women assume they’re OK if there’s no family history of breast cancer,” said Dr. Grace Song, a North Royalton family medicine physician with Southwest General. “The statistic of one in eight women, that’s women with no history. W ....

Blue Ribbon St. Albert the Great School always aiming to be greater

In his State of the School address, Saint Albert the Great Principal Ed Vittardi noted how the Wallings Road parochial school will not stay great but aim to always be greater. It’s a play on words that very much rings true for the twice recognized Blue Ribbon National School of Excellence that continues its position as one of very few schools within the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland to show growth at more than 99 percent capacity. The average Catholic school in the diocese has approximately 279 students, Vittardi noted, whereas this academic year kicked off with 914 enrolled students at Sai ....
