Students dance the night away at Daddy, Daughter and Other Cool Dudes Dance

Elementary students danced the night away at the first annual Daddy, Daughter and Other Cool Dudes Dance put on by the North Royalton High School softball team on Friday, November 22. The dance started as a fund-raiser for the team but turned into so much more - a memorable community event. The ordinary middle school gym was transformed into a modern, glowing dance club with cool laser lights and rockin’ music. The December meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, December 9. The following school presentations were made: Albion Elementary: Third-grade student and student council representative Nick Raus shared how Albion Elementary staff and students donated $625 to Wags 4 Warriors during a Veterans Spirit Week. Jessica Fenos is winner of Ward 1 City Council Race

After a month-long wait, the winner of the Ward 1 City Council Race has finally been determined. Jessica Fenos, 40, has been named as the next Council Representative of Ward 1. The official tally showed that she beat 20-year-old Anton Krieger by two votes. The unofficial count released by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections on the November 5 elections showed Fenos at 617 and Krieger at 615. At that point, the Board processes the initial votes and adds provisional ballots and other mail-in ballots, which then become the official count. School District faces possible financial hit

The North Royalton School District recently learned that they may be facing a possible financial hit, compliments of the state legislature. The state’s biennium budget, which was adopted earlier this year, included a change in it’s EdChoice scholarship program that has added the North Royalton District, as well as other well-to-do districts in their program. The EdChoice Scholarship program offers scholarship to parents of students in underperforming public schools and for low income students. The program was established in 2005. Plastic Bag Ban extended to July 2020

North Royalton City Council introduced legislation at its December 3 meeting that would negate the plastic bag ban that was adopted by Cuyahoga County in May. If passed, North Royalton would join other cities in the county, including Brooklyn. The city of North Olmsted also recently introduced legislation. North Royalton Athletes “Stuff the Bus” for Coats for Kids

The North Royalton High School football team held the 10th Annual Coats for Kids Stuff the Bus event on Saturday, November 23, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. North Royalton residents, friends and neighbors brought new or like-new winter coats and cash donations to the North Royalton Board of Education parking lot at 6579 Royalton Road. The players carried on the decade-long tradition of “stuffing” a North Royalton school bus with coats which will be transferred to Coats for Kids and redistributed to children in need in northeast Ohio. St. Albert the Great building on 60 years of faith for a new generation

The Catholic feast of St. Albert the Great, patron of the parish was November 15. Saint Albert the Great parish celebrated this Feast Day as a Solemnity on Saturday and Sunday, November 16 and 17. This year’s celebration is special due to the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the parish. City Parks and Recreation Departments moves in to new property

The North Royalton Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of moving into a new facility, purchased this year by the city. They will be moving into the previously-owned Cuyahoga County property, which sits adjacent to the York Road ball fields, which will not only give them more room, but will also serve as equipment storage. “We’ll start moving in a little at a time,” said Mayor Bob Stefanik. Former Rite Aid property will be Chase Bank

The Rite Aid property, which is located at the corner of Royalton Road and State Road will be seeing some changes. The property will ultimately be changed from a retail store to a bank. Rite Aid vacated the property when they closed down that store’s location earlier this year. Rite Aid was built in 1997 on the 1.37 acre parcel. The existing 11,316 square foot building will be demolished and a new building housing Chase Bank will be constructed next year.
