Lenten season synonymous with Fish Fries

The 40-day season of Lent has started for Christians and with it comes fasting, prayer, repentance and renewal. During this solemn and reflective time leading up to the religious celebration of Easter, Catholics abstain from eating meat on Fridays as a means of sacrifice. They are also encouraged to “give up something” or “add something” to their daily life, such as giving up a favorite treat or habit throughout Lent or making effort to attend daily church service or worship events. City looks to decrease energy costs

City Council held a special Finance Committee meeting where a presentation was delivered on recommendations of a recent energy audit. Two options were given for their consideration. Ultimately, the city is looking to reduce operating costs through energy conservation improvement projects. “We’re always looking to reduce our energy costs,” said Mayor Bob Stefanik. New K-9 officer awaits his partner

Plans for the new K-9 unit for the North Royalton Police Department is in full swing. North Royalton Safety Director Bruce Campbell said that the new officer for the unit has been named and the dog will be selected soon. The program was re-instituted after a grant was received through the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, which provided a $12,800 grant, which will fund the cost of the dog, kennels and a bulletproof vest for the dog. About 100 people attended the North Royalton School District’s (NRSD) State of the Schools address, presented by North Royalton School Superintendent Greg Gurka. There’s something truly special about local theater. Before Mario Dabramo opened his namesake restaurant in 2017, he spent 30 years working in the construction business. He had always dreamed of opening a restaurant, but the timing had never felt right, until it did. Number of white tailed deer is slowly declining

The numbers are in for the latest deer hunting season. The Ohio Deer Hunting Season for 2018-19, for archery started on September 29, 2018 and concluded on February 3, 2019, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. With this season’s end, North Royalton Chief of Police, Ken Bilinovich reported the 2018-19 season’s update to the Council Safety Committee at their meeting on February 19. Markie Michalke represents NRHS at OMEA All-State Ensembles

One of the many highlights that focus on student performance are the OMEA All-State Ensembles for band, choir, jazz band and orchestra. More than 1,000 high school students from all across Ohio submitted applications and recorded auditions in May of 2018 in hopes of being selected to perform with these prestigious ensembles. The North Royalton Board of Education’s monthly School Board meeting took place on Monday, February 11. The meeting began with the singing of the National Anthem by Valley Vista fourth grade students, who will also be performing at an upcoming Lake Erie Monsters game.
