Frigid temperatures cause water main woes

“Water main breaks are unpredictable,” according to the City of Cleveland, Division of Water (CDW). “A big factor is weather. The colder the weather is for an extended period of time, the more water main breaks occur. Breaks can also occur when there is a sudden increase in water pressure in a water main, such as when a fire hydrant is closed too suddenly.” On Monday, January 28, a 36-inch water main break on Engle Road in Middleburg Heights impacted five communities, including North Royalton. Sprague Road project will benefit from Issue One 2019 Funding

It’s a mixed bag for the city of North Royalton when it comes to the 2019 Issue One Program. The program is a State of Ohio capital infrastructure program. The bad news is that it did not receive a high score on a funding request for the Abbey Road project. The good news is that the County Department of Public Works did score high enough for Phase Two of the Sprague Road project, which lies in North Royalton. County warns of Impostor Scams

A new round of scams have cropped up, as reported by the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs. They are warning residents about a new round of impostor scams impersonating court officials or the County Sheriff’s deputies. Recently, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department received multiple complaints about impostor calls in which scammers identified themselves as deputies. Route 82 widening sees shortened path to completion

Some good news in the current phase of the Rt. 82 widening project comes in the form of potential shortened time line of the project and a traffic flow that is actually better than originally anticipated. The project will convert Rt. 82, which runs east/west through North Royalton, from a two-lane road to a three-lane road, with six-foot sidewalks and seven-foot tree lawns one each side, as well as two 15-foot lanes and an 11-foot turning lane, completing a span of 78 feet. School staff trains to “Stop the Bleed” in case of emergency

Students and staff of North Royalton City Schools are entering the second half of the academic year even more prepared for emergency situations. A program named “Stop the Bleed” is training school district staff on how to use their hands, supplied dressings and tourniquets to control bleeding and be better equipped to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. The first meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, January 7, directly following the yearly organizational meeting. During the organizational meeting, the John Kelly was nominated as the 2019 Board President and Anne Reinkober as the Board Vice President. Jim Presot rehired as School Assistant Superintendent

The North Royalton City Schools Board of Education approved a new contract to Assistant Superintendent, Jim Presot, at their January meeting on Monday, January 7. Presot retired at the end of last year. The Board approved the appointment of Presot as Assistant Superintendent, effective February 1, 2019 through July 31, 2022, at a pro-rated base salary of $65,181.40 for the period of February 1, 2019 - July 31, 2019. Safety forces add three new hires

North Royalton City Council approved three new hires for the North Royalton Police and Fire Departments at their January 15 meeting. Two of the new recruits are for the Fire Department and one new hire for the Police Department. The two new members of the North Royalton Fire Department are Yaroslav Yavorski and Isaac R. Siman. Both started with the Fire Department, effective January 7. Both were sworn in on Friday, January 4. Police Department to install new phone system

The North Royalton City Council authorized new radios and a console unit for the North Royalton Police Department from Motorola Solutions, at their December 28 meeting. The legislation approved a five-year lease-to-own agreement with Fifth Third Bank that funds the new system, which consists of Motorola radios and a console. The agreement will outfit the North Royalton Police Department with sixty new radios, one for each officer to carry, twenty six radios, one for each police cruiser, one for each police motorcycle and a console for the clerk’s office. No one injured in Stephanie Drive house engulfed in flames

In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 28, the North Royalton Fire Department was dispatched to a home off of Bunker Road. The call came in at 5:35 p.m. for a fire at a home at 8641 Stephanie Drive. Mutual aid was called from Broadview Heights and Parma. The fire was contained in about 30 minutes, according to Chegan.
