NRFD needs your help to “Stuff the Squad” to benefit local food banks

In the spirit of this Season of Giving, the Fire Departments in the cities of North Royalton, Parma, Parma Heights, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Broadview Heights and Seven Hills, in conjunction and coordination with the University Hospitals Parma and the University Hospitals E.M.S. Training Institute, will sponsor a three-day “Stuff the Squad” event to benefit the local food banks within the respective communities. Three NR athletes sign Letters of Intent

On November 15, three North Royalton Student-Athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play their sport next year in college. Two of the three athletes signed to play at NCAA Division One Schools. The three are senior swimmer Sarah Turchanik, who will attend The Ohio State University. Senior volleyball player Anna Kirkke, who will attend Ashland University in 2019. And senior basketball player Taiyier Parks, who will be on the court for the Michigan State Spartans. Retiring school assistant superintendent hopes to regain same position in early 2019

The North Royalton City Schools’ Assistant Superintendent Jim Presot is set to retire at the end of this year. His current contract was set to expire July 31, 2019. The Board of Education will be voting on whether to offer a new contract to Presot early next year. According to Ohio law, the North Royalton School District posted a Legal Notice on November 8, stating that James J. Presot, currently employed as the assistant superintendent, will be retired and seeking re-employment with the district in the same position, following his retirement. City to receive tax incentive on senior development

North Royalton will be receiving additional tax revenue from a new senior housing development. City Council recently approved legislation that would allow the city to receive tax money that would normally go to Cuyahoga County. At their November 20 meeting, City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance that establishes Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for Royalton Place, the senior development on York Road, near Route 82. City looks to decrease energy costs

City Council recently selected Leopardo Companies, Incorporated to prepare an energy conservation report for the city. The measure was unanimously adopted at the November 20 City Council meeting. Ultimately, the city is looking to reduce operating costs through energy conservation improvement projects. “We’re always looking to reduce our energy costs,” said Mayor Bob Stefanik. Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church serves more than 1700 Thanksgiving Day Care and Share dinners

It started back in 1989 when volunteers at Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church at the corner of Royalton and Abbey Roads began the Care and Share Community Dinner. On that Thanksgiving Day nearly 30 years ago, volunteers served 100 dinners. In 2018, hundreds more volunteers prepared about 1,700 Thanksgiving Day dinners to be taken to shut-ins and to be served at the church. “Our preparations to serve the hundreds on Thanksgiving Day began on Tuesday, two days before,” said Paul Martin, a member of the Committee that oversees the dinner. “We prepared about 900 pounds of turkey plus all the f ....

Holiday Lighting adds a warm hometown feeling

Motorists and pedestrians traveling past the North Royalton City Green are once again being greeted by a tradition now 18 years in the making. Police officer investigated after charges challenged

A veteran police officer in the North Royalton Police Department is being investigated after a judge’s ruling challenged his charges of an OVI. A man was pulled over in April for a tinted window violation and a non-operating license plate light. The man was ultimately charged for those two misdemeanors, as well as OVI, Failure to Comply with Order or Signal of Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. We’re entering that time of year when Santa Claus gets ready for his big day and holiday lights illuminate houses, buildings and trees.
