The North Royalton Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 14.
Assistant to the School Superintendent Jim Presot gave a brief construction update, stating that the demolition section of the 1950’s section of the High School has been completed. Site work is being completed to that front part of the building and preparing the front for the parking lot. The time line for that renovation is completion by October 31, given the current projections. Renovation work at the Middle School has begun and is expected to be completed before the start of the new school year. On the new elementary school, every item has been moved from Valley Vista, Royal View and Albion. Staff will be arriving shortly to get established in the new building over the next two months. Currently, final punch-list items are being resolved. Exterior landscaping and both playgrounds have been completed. The road widening in front of the school and sanitary sewer work is still in progress. Traffic is still being diverted.
The Board approved an appropriation adjustment of fund, 507 ESSER, from $1,386,611.97 to $1,377,416.76.
The Board approved a resolution designating depositors of public money of the school district in accordance with a resolution, adopted by this Board on May 10, 2021, and Chapter 135 of the Ohio Revised Code, after applications were sought from banks, savings associations, savings and loan associations and savings banks having an office in the School District and certain other eligible institutions to serve from July 31, 2021 through July 30, 2026. The applications to serve as depositories are identified as follows: Fifth Third Bank, Dollar Bank, Huntington National Bank, First National Bank and US Bank.
The Board resolved to certify the 2021 graduates, provided they satisfactorily completed requirements of the State Department of Education.
The Board approved the following change of assignment effective 2021-22 school year or as indicated: Kirk Pavelich from Royal View Elementary Principal to Head Principal North Royalton Elementary School at an initial base salary of $102,083 effective 8/1/2021 through 7/31/2023.
The Board approved the following agreements for the 2021-22 school year: Suburban School Transportation, Incorporated for transportation of special need students; ABA Outreach Services for a Board Certified Behavior Analyst for training and support of staff; Thrive Summer Camp program with Therapy & Wellness Connection LLC for a student at the cost of $3,594; Positive Education Program/Pep Assist for services; LINQ-Gateway for registering and updating student information at a cost of $14,250; Reach New Heights, LLC for summer camp for students at a cost of $1,800 for 12 weeks; UCP of Greater Cleveland for summer camp for a student at a cost of $9,000; Kidslink School, LLC for services for students with special needs from September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022; Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio for special education program services with the Positive Education Program, as needed; Public School Works for annual employee training..
The Board approved the following textbooks for the 2021-22 school year: National Geographic World History: Great Civilizations (6 year) for Grade 7 Social Studies; Discovering Our Past: A History of the US Early Years (6 year) for Grade 8 Social Studies; Century 21 Accounting (6 year) for Accounting; College Physics for AP Physics I and II.
The Board authorized the adoption of the new Science curriculum purchase from Carolina Biological and Delta Education for grades 3-8 at a cost of $139,745.43, including on-site professional development.
The Board recognized the retirements of Lillian Bender, Mary Boyer, Michael Edikiz, Sheila Erbacher, Rena Grida, Gregory Gurka, Steven Kravec, Susan Lionti, Lee Ann Morris, Ronald Pudelski, Beth Schneider and Kelly Tesar.
The Board accepted the following Retirements and Resignations:
Retirements: Richard Nestoff, High School Science, Effective June 1, 2021; Susan Underwood, Grade 4, Albion, effective June 1, 2021
Resignation: Monica Trunzo, Summer Employment, Classified Worker, effective June 2, 2021.
The Board approved the following appointments:
Certified Employees – Kaitlin Allen/High School/Pre-School/Speech-Language Pathologist; Elise Grover/North Royalton Elementary School/Fourth Grade; Sydney Jahnigen/High School/Vocal Music; Marshae Love/North Royalton Elementary School/First Grade; Hallee Palermo/High School/.6 Art; Rachael Sladky/High School/Small Group Instructor; Kelly Zippay/North Royalton Elementary School/Kindergarten (.5).
The Board approved the non-licensed supplemental employment of Larry Zajac as Head High School Girls Soccer Coach. The Board offered the supplemental position to certificated/licensed employees of the district, but did not receive any applications.
The Board adopted three resolutions that execute memorandums of understanding with the North Royalton Band Boosters, the North Royalton Athletic Boosters and the North Royalton Choir Boosters.
The Board approved an agreement with Sheakley Uniservice, Incorporated for third party administrators for the 2021-22 school year as part of the Ohio School Council Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Program.
The Board adopted a resolution to participate in the Ohio School Council Waste and Recycling Services, awarding Cuyahoga County to Waste Management of Ohio, Inc. a contract from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024.
The Board accepted a bid from Ohio Casualty (Todd Associates/Liberty Mutual Group) for general liability, fleet and umbrella insurance for the district from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
They also approved insurance endorsements to the District’s liability police to include North Royalton Athletic Boosters, North Royalton Band Boosters, North Royalton Choir Boosters, Valley Vista Elementary School PTA, Royal View Elementary School PTA, Albion Elementary School PTA, North Royalton Middle School PTA, North Royalton High School PTA, North Royalton Early Childhood PTA, North Royalton Stadium Foundation and the North Royalton Educational Foundation, effective July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.
The Board approved an agreement with USA Mobile Drug Testing of Northeast Ohio for bus/van driver drug and alcohol testing, effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. They also approved the physicians of Employer Health Source through Corporate Health at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center to perform non-group bus/van driver exams, effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.
The next North Royalton School Board meeting will take place on Monday, July 12, at 7 p.m. at the North Royalton High School Media Center.
