North Royalton School Superintendent Mike Laub will be leaving the School District upon his retirement in August, 2026. Laub has been serving as the North Royalton City School District Superintendent since July 1, 2021.
At the September 11 School Board meeting, the Board initiated procedures under Ohio law for the retirement and re-employment of Michael Laub, who is employed in the position of Superintendent and has submitted his notice of retirement from employment effective the end of business day on August 1, 2026. Laub has expressed interest and a desire to be rehired in the same position. The Board would have considered Laub’s re-hiring at their regularly schedule Board meeting on November 13.
Laub released a statement, explaining that at the September School Board meeting, the Board passed a resolution to consider rehiring him following his retirement. “As part of that process, the Board is required to hold a public meeting to allow for comment between fifteen and thirty days prior to voting on the rehire. That meeting was scheduled for October 23 and publicly advertised. After that announcement, I was contacted by my former district, Avon Lake Local Schools, regarding their search for a Superintendent. Through those conversations and subsequent meeting, I have been offered the opportunity to return to Avon as Superintendent, beginning in August, 2026. After thoughtful consideration, I have decided to accept this position.
At the October 23 School Board meeting, Laub stated that he enjoyed very much being with the North Royalton School District and working for the kids. “ I’m committed to being here for the rest of the time, through next summer, in helping in any way I can. It’s a tough situation in the way it unfolded, but I’m proud to have an opportunity to land back in a place that I’m familiar with.” Laub had served as the School Superintendent of the Avon Local School District starting in 2012.
North Royalton Board of Education President, Jackie Arendt, stated, “the Board wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Mr. Laub’s dedication and service to our students, staff and community during his five years as Superintendent. His leadership has been instrumental in the success and growth of our district and his presence will be missed. We value the dedication he shows to making sure our district has time to plan for his replacement. We are committed to a seamless transition and will be working diligently to ensure a smooth and effective succession process as we move forward. We will be in touch with the community with further updates on the search for a new Superintendent and the transition plan. At the October 23 Board meeting, Arendt noted that “sometimes a person gets an opportunity that they just must take.”
