Bennett Road path to be extended

The Bennett Road path will now be completed, extending from South Akins to the Valley Parkway. The extension will take place with a grant award to the city from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA). The original portion of the path was installed when Bennett Road was reconstructed in 2012. The original path was constructed from asphalt, is eight feet wide and is located on the west side of Bennett Road. Basketball season ends for Royalton Bears

The basketball season for the boys and girls ended too quickly for both North Royalton varsity teams. Both the boys and the girls won games in the State Tournament, leading fans to believe that the future looks bright for North Royalton on the basketball floor. The boys’ team won their opening game in the State Tournament, defeating Lincoln West out of the Cleveland Senate Athletic League 77-44. Valley Vista Elementary Student Council thanks community members with treats and cards

Student Council members from Valley Vista Elementary have been thanking community members for their service for several years and 2018 is no exception. In the past, they have sent cards or invited community members to breakfast, but each year is a little different. On March 15, Student Council provided breakfast treats and thank you cards to the North Royalton police and fire departments. The theme for this act of appreciation was “Heroes Don’t Always Wear Capes.” Student Council members voted to use some of the group’s funding to purchase treats. Florida school shooting prompts more talk of safety

School Safety has come to the forefront of discussion again after a recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida that killed 17 people. The discussion has expanded to include the participation of students. About 200 North Royalton High School Students participated in a student-organized walkout on Wednesday, March 14. Robbers flee after stealing potent drugs from Rite Aid

North Royalton Police are looking for help in identifying three men in connection to a robbery. On Thursday, March 15, the Rite Aid store at 13955 State Road, at the corner of Royalton Road, was robbed. The incident took place at about 6:25 p.m. It appears that one man came into the store and looked around and then left. Three men then came into the store, one man in the front of the store and two moving toward the back, targeting the pharmacy. Memorial Park will get update from various partnerships

City Council recently adopted legislation that will lead to the upgrading of various aspects of Memorial Park. A resolution with the North Royalton School District and an ordinance regarding the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), lead to cost saving partnerships by the city. City Council recently adopted a resolution that continues a partnership with the city schools for a lease agreement at Memorial Park that adds up to a win-win situation. Hunting causing deer population to slowly decline

The number of white tailed deer has been slowly, but steadily declining with the passage of ordinances for the hunting of white tailed deer several years ago, which allowed the bow hunting within the city borders. The Ohio Deer Hunting Season for 2017-18, for archery started on September 30, 2017 and concluded on February 4, 2018, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. NR Wrestlers ready for the District Tournament

The North Royalton Wrestling team learned some valuable lessons during the regular season and are ready to make a statement in the post-season OHSAA Individual State Tournament. Those lessons came by wrestling nationally-ranked teams like Brecksville and Wadsworth during the Suburban League regular season. City, Chamber plan  gala for Bicentennial

Banners will be flying, literally, as the city celebrates its bicentennial this year. Plans are being finalized for the festivities, including the installation of special Bicentennial banners, which will start this summer. Mutual Aid from 7 communities helps put out 3-alarm fire on York Road

On Monday, February 19, a call came into the North Royalton Fire Department at about 2:00 p.m. regarding an explosion and fire at 14900 York Road. North Royalton Fire Chief, Bob Chegan was first on the scene of the fully involved fire. He said he could see the thick, black smoke from the North Royalton Fire Station on Royalton Road .
