An accident recently took place that involved a car versus house situation. The driver was transported to the hospital, but no one in the home was injured. The house is located on the west side of York Road, south of Sprague Road and north of Tilby Road.
On Monday, July 1, a call came at 6:30 p.m. in regarding an erratic driver on York Road, according to North Royalton Fire Chief Bob Chegan. The vehicle then went off the road and struck a house at 8206 York Road. It was determined that the driver had suffered a medical emergency and ploughed into the home’s basement. North Royalton Police and Fire Department responded.
Chegan said that the driver was extricated with the jaws of life and transported to Metro Cleveland Main Campus, due to the nature of potential injuries. The Metro Cleveland Main Campus is a Level 1 Trauma center. “She was unresponsive, it was difficult to determine the level of injury,” said Chegan. There is no word on her condition at this time.
The Southwest Emergency Response Team responded to shore up the house. The residents were able to return to the home. York Road was closed initially, but opened to traffic after about fifteen minutes, according to Chegan.
Ward 1 Councilman John Nickell posted the accident on Facebook, saying, “our police and fire responded quickly and Southwest Emergency Response was called in to brace the house foundation. Thank you to all our safety services that keep us safe and then help us when bad things sometimes happen.” The home is located in Nickell’s ward.
