Ward 5 Councilman Steve Muller announced his resignation at the December 20 City Council Meeting. Muller said that he was moving out of the city because he was recently married and moving closer to his wife’s job. The position was officially vacated on January 1, 2017.
City Council is now looking for a replacement of the Ward 5 position, which is in effect until the end of this year. Muller was in the middle of his third term.
The last time City Council had to make an appointment was in 2013, to fill the term of Ward 3 Councilman Don Willey, who passed away in office. Dan Langshaw was then chosen to be appointed among three candidates.
The North Royalton City Council office is accepting in-person resumes until Friday, January 20, 2017, at 4 p.m. The office is located at 14600 State Road.
Those residents that are interested to make an application must meet the following criteria, which is outlined in the City’s charter, Article III, paragraph (b):
“(b) QUALIFICATIONS.
Candidates for Council shall have resided in the Municipality and have been an elector thereof for a period of at least two (2) years next preceding his or her election. Each ward Council member must have lived in his or her ward at least one (1) year prior to election and must continue to live in the ward he or she represents during his or her entire term of office. No member of Council, except as hereinafter provided in this Charter, shall hold any other elected public office or be employed by the Municipality, except that of notary public or member of the State Militia, or Reserve Corps of the United States, or be directly or indirectly involved in the disbursement of public moneys of North Royalton, except while performing his or her duties as Councilperson.
To the extent as provided by law, no member of Council shall directly or indirectly solicit, contract for, receive or be interested in the profits or emoluments of any contract, job, work or service with or for the Municipality. Any member who ceases to possess any of the qualifications herein set forth, or who removes from the Municipality, shall thereby forfeit his or her office.
Applicants will be required to sign a document affirming that they meet these qualifications when they submit their resume to the Council Office.”
City Council will hold interviews for this position on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at North Royalton City Hall, 14600 State Road, North Royalton, Ohio 44133. All qualified applicants who have timely filed their resume will be contacted by the City Council Office to attend this interview. Council President Larry Antoskiewicz said that the candidate may be chosen at that meeting, or at a special Council meeting later in the month. When the candidate is chosen, the newly appointed Council Representative will start serving immediately. That term will expire on December 31, 2017.
Applicants can call the Council Office at 440-237-5686, extension 107, for more information.
