City taking proactive approach to managing snow
If the North Royalton Service Department was ever renamed, the “Proactive Department” might be the next-best fit. Because in weather situations like the relentless Winter Storm Harper, which dumped more than a foot of snow onto city streets in a matter of hours, and a subsequent day where temperatures rocketed into the high 40s and heavy rains fell for several hours turning Harper’s snow into a slushy, flood-like mess, crews at the North Royalton Service Department stand ready and are constantly one, if not maybe ten, steps ahead of Mother Nature. “We are very, very proactive and we s ....
Frigid temperatures cause water main woes
“Water main breaks are unpredictable,” according to the City of Cleveland, Division of Water (CDW). “A big factor is weather. The colder the weather is for an extended period of time, the more water main breaks occur. Breaks can also occur when there is a sudden increase in water pressure in a water main, such as when a fire hydrant is closed too suddenly.” On Monday, January 28, a 36-inch water main break on Engle Road in Middleburg Heights impacted five communities, including North Royalton. The water main break resulted in little or no water pressure for residents in North Royalt ....
Sprague Road project will benefit from Issue One 2019 Funding
It’s a mixed bag for the city of North Royalton when it comes to the 2019 Issue One Program. The program is a State of Ohio capital infrastructure program. The bad news is that it did not receive a high score on a funding request for the Abbey Road project. The good news is that the County Department of Public Works did score high enough for Phase Two of the Sprague Road project, which lies in North Royalton. It was one of eleven projects that will receive part of the $29.848 million available for the 2019 program. The Issue One program issues a combination of loans and grants that wil ....

A new round of scams have cropped up, as reported by the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs. They are warning residents about a new round of impostor scams impersonating court officials or the County Sheriff’s deputies. Recently, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department received multiple complaints about impostor calls in which scammers identified themselves as deputies. When calling the phone number given, the person answered by saying “Cuyahoga County Sheriff.” “In these scams, callers posing as police or court officials tell potential victims they missed a cour ....
Route 82 widening sees shortened path to completion
Some good news in the current phase of the Rt. 82 widening project comes in the form of potential shortened time line of the project and a traffic flow that is actually better than originally anticipated. The project will convert Rt. 82, which runs east/west through North Royalton, from a two-lane road to a three-lane road, with six-foot sidewalks and seven-foot tree lawns one each side, as well as two 15-foot lanes and an 11-foot turning lane, completing a span of 78 feet. The lanes will be wider than the current lanes. The West 130 to York Road portion of the Royalton Road project is bein ....
