The April meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, April 17.
The Board approved the following tax budget for the next succeeding fiscal year, commencing January 1, 2024, to be levied within and without the ten-mill limitation as follows:
General Fund Inside, 5.00; General Fund Outside, 53.90; Total General Fund, 58.90; Permanent Improvement Fund Inside, 1.00; Permanent Improvement Fund Outside, .50; Bond Retirement Fund, 4.30; Grand Total, 64.70.
The Board approved an agreement to enter into an annual financial statement services with the Local Government Services Section of the Office of the Auditor of State as of and for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, for an annual cost of $14,450.00.
The Board approved the following account: 499-9023 Ohio Attorney General’s Fiscal Year 2023 Safety Grant. It also approved the following 2022-23 appropriation adjustment: 499-9023 fund, from $142,564.29 to $163,864.46.
The Board approved the following transfer:
001-General Fund to 950A-Athletics, $ 35,000.00 (To cover final expenses for the 2022-23 fiscal year).
The Board approved the following school and participation fees for the 2023-24 school year:
Kindergarten, $50.00; Grades1-4, $65.00; Grades 5-7, $70.00; Grade 8, $80.00+ World Language Fee if applicable; Middle School Athletics Participation Fee, $100.00; High School Athletics Participation Fee, $125.00; Middle School Activity Participation Fee, $30.00; High School Activity Participation Fee, $30.00.
School Superintendent Mike Laub discussed the Strategic Plan audit, which was distributed to the Board. He noted that “we are at a point right now where everybody has added the pieces where they belong in the process. Mrs. Vojta and I will meet over the next couple of weeks with our individual building and go through where they are with what has been accomplished and what’s still on the to-do list.”
The Board recognized the retirement of employee High School Administrative Assistant, Karen Koegle. They also accepted the following resignations and retirements:

The Board approved an amendment to the 2023-24 school year calendar to extend spring break by one day and extend the end of the year by one day.
The Board acknowledged the following appreciation weeks: Administrative Professionals Day (April 26, 2023) and Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week (May 1-7, 2023). The Board appreciates the outstanding efforts of all employees of North Royalton City Schools and commends them for “making the difference” in providing a quality educational experience by inspiring and empowering learners. They also acknowledged National Volunteer Week (April 16-22, 2023). The Board expressed grateful appreciation to these volunteers who have unselfishly contributed their time, expertise, and financial support to the North Royalton City Schools.
The Board honored Ashley DeAngelis, PTA President of North Royalton High School, as the 2022-23 Friend of Education.
The Board honored Cynthia “Cindy” Richards as the 2022-23 Teacher of the Year. Richards served as a teacher in the NRSD since 1997.
The Board honored Mary Oldag as the 2022-23 Support Staff of the Year. Oldag has been an employee for the district since 1998.
The Board authorized a contract for HVAC equipment at the High School in an amount not to exceed $300,000 through the Omnia Public Purchasing Consortium.
The Board approved an Ohio Schools Council Governance Policy Change Resolution, granting the School Superintendent the authority to modify or amend the Supplement Ohio Schools Council Policy 1.1 Section 10 Agreement, Policy 1.3 Section 11 Bylaws, and any other Agreements requiring Ohio Schools Council Assembly approval. These amendments may occur at any regular or special meeting of the Ohio Schools Council Assembly at which a quorum is present.

The Board accepted and acknowledged the following gifts/donations:
-Janice Sobodosh of North Royalton donated $75 and clothing to the Caring Closet
-Dan & Susan Renner donated school supplies, valued at $40, to the Caring Closet
-The North Royalton Educational Foundation donated $10,112.08 to teacher grant applicants.
-Fin, Feather, and Fur Outfitters of Middleburg Heights donated fishing gear, valued at $104.72, to the North Royalton Middle School fishing club.
The next regular Board of Education meeting will take place on Monday, May 8 at the North Royalton High School Community Room.
