The new appointment for the seat of Ward 5 Council Representative is Cheryl Hannan. She replaces Steve Muller, who resigned at the end of year, as he was planning to move out of the city.
Two residents applied for the position. Hannan and Kathy King. North Royalton Council President, Larry Antoskiewicz noted that, “I am really pleased that we had two very qualified individuals that applied. Either candidate would have fared well. The difference, for me, is that Cheryl has been very involved in the community for a long time, with the schools and planning commission. She has a good grasp of what’s going on and has a handle on the direction the city is going.”
Hannan, 57, has been a North Royalton resident for over 30 years. She is certainly no stranger to the inner workings of the city. Hannan served as a Board member of the North Royalton Board of Education from 2004 to 2011, serving as Vice President in 2006 and 2008 and President in 2007. She also served on the Board of Education for the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center in 2010 and 2011. Most recently, she has been a member of the North Royalton Planning Commission since 2011, serving as Vice Chair in 2012 and Chairperson in 2013.
Hannan has worked as an attorney for the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court since 2005. She holds a law degree from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio University.
Mayor Bob Stefanik, who had appointed Hannan to the Planning Commission, was pleased with her appointment, saying she was well suited for the post. He noted that she was asked to be a member of the Planning Commission because of her work ethic, her fiscal responsibility and her ability to listen to all sides of an issue before making a decision.
Hannan will now complete Muller’s two-year term, which ends at the end of the year. If she wishes to retain the seat, she will have to run for re-election in November.
