On November 26, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections reported that an automatic recount of the November 5 election would take place on six different races in Cuyahoga County. The Ward 1 Council race was among the others, that included the Council at Large for the city of Brecksville and Rocky River, Council seats in the villages of Valley View and Walton Hills and a Board of Education member in the Brooklyn City School District.
By law, if the difference between votes is one half of one percent, an automatic recount then takes place. Since the Ward 1 City Council race is so close at this time, the winner of that seat is still in question. The recounts were then scheduled to begin on Monday, December 2 at 9:30 a.m.
The Ward 1 Council seat is being sought by Jessica Fenos and Anton Krieger. According to the official count by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, Fenos received 625 and Krieger, 622, which places them automatically in the recount category.
